  1. Yes,

Recently they put partacles of a rats brain into a robot without programing the robot to do anything, and it acted like a rat!

  2. Your ill informed, our brains are much more complex than a computer programme as it is the human brain that designed the computer programmme therefore our brains are more complex than the capabiltys of a personal computer

  3. Too many Sci-FI movies matey

  4. It really is. I always found it funny that neurons use electricity chemically to relay messages and thought, as well (that's some added knowledge). If you want to expand on that, you can also say it's incredible that we're composed of atoms made up of electrons, and that these basic building blocks of nothing more than electricity and tiny mass somehow combine into the thousands of proteins and and chemicals needed to making a living being. You, my friend, would really find a biochemistry book cool.

Good question! I like these thought provoking ones.

  5. I did an entire module at university based on the idea of whether or not it is possible to make a true humanoid-robot.

I guess our conclusion was no - but I still think about it plenty.

Whilst SOME, can argue that our brain is just a form of software - information goes in (for example, the light bouncing off an object into our eyes), but is only understood in our brain, and processed (it's only until our brain "sees" it and recognises what it is), then possibly performs an output - moving it for example?

However, software cannot learn - at least, unless it's programmed to already - but it can never trulylearn.

For example, a robot that has been programmed to move from one area to another. That's all. It has a sensor (eye) to notice where it is, and wheels (output) to move it. What if - it broke, and it's wheel fell off? Perfectly simple. It wouldn't be able to do anything.

If a random example was brought to us - we CAN learn - that is one thing that sseparatesus from so many. Not just general learning, but adaption on a cognitive level.

Also - it depends on your opinion on duality. Do you think we have a soul? Something, more existential than just electrons etc.?

In that case - we're FAR from software!!

Plus, software has a tough time taking care of it's self. If it forgets information - that's it. But our brain is phenominal at repairing it's self. It can recall it from different sources. It is far more linked - we can see a shape, and find so many different meanings to it. The software will only recognise the meanings it's been previously assigned too. Again, just the idea that the brain is much more malliable and far greater than software.

*just* complex, I think, is over-simpilising it.

  6. Yeah i think its the same, like your body is the computer and your brain holds the operating system.

  7. I think it's amazing, too, and a lot of people get offended when you tell them that their body is a working machine.

  8. Yes - are any of sure this is not just a dream?

  9. If you could stipulate that the brain writes and rewrites it's own software, and interface between computers is limited to very low bandwidth connections were data integrity is always compromised to some extent, either due to the I/O conduit themselves or due to differences in the versions of software among computers.

  10. lol you have been thinking too much.

    yes..

but i think that life is just a game.

    or, something rfom survival.

  11. Isn't that frightening?  If we are in a program, and we are only software, who created it?  And why?

I have thought about this.  I don't like the idea that this is some kind of game, entertainment for someone.  It is cruel, like we are in a zoo.

    But it certainly makes sense.

  12. Yeah, this one works OK, because Bill Gates never updates it.

  13. google 'neural networks'

  14. yeah, right. Easy on the ganja there Neo.

  15. I have a big issue with this. Differences in brain structure are often correlated with various behaviours. However to say the difference in structure causes the symptoms rather than vice versa is entirely unproved. In fact both are unproved. It is purely correlational. I personally believe the physical is a manifestaion of the mental but of course that is just my belief. Consciousness has not been reduced to tangible data and I believe it never will. It does cause offense but if you do not see why I'm not going to harp on and try to convince you. I just think its a shame that you choose to see things in black and white.
