Maybe even further. There is mysteries that there are UFOs underground, in hangars, and under tarps. So do you think it is amazing?

  1. Even MORE amazing, we went from the Wright flyer to the MOON in just over 60 years!

  2. I think it's amazing.

And the fact that I get to fly an airplane every day is just awesome.

  3. No.  It is amazing that we went from the Wright Flyer to manned rocket and jet flight in under 50 years.

  4. Pretty neat.

I think its more impressive that we went from the wright flyer to the boeing 747 in 70 years (B-747 flew commercially in 1970). So theoretically speaking, there could have been people who were kids witnessing the first ever flight of the wright flyer. Then, become a passenger in a 747 flight across the atlantic when they retired. That's freaky.

  5. I think its awesome too. And Fly B is right. It is kinda freaky. I've asked myself that question many times before.

  6. Not really.

We went from the Wright Flyer to supersonic fighter jets and subsonic passenger jets in 50 years.  In the last 50 years there hasn't been too much advancement in aviation.  Sure the planes are a bit larger, more fuel efficient, safer, and stealthier.  But there are no real record breakers anymore (not since the SR-71 which was designed back in the 60s!).  Even SpaceShipOne was boldly going where many have gone before.

We haven't been back to the moon since 1972.  We no longer have a supersonic passenger jet.  The average speed of subsonic airliners has gone down from 600MPH to 500MPH to save fuel-not that anyone would notice the speed difference with all the security measures in place.  The 50 year old English Electric Lightning would beat the pants off almost any modern fighter in a time to climb race and the 40 year old Mig-25/31 would beat any modern fighter in a point to point race.

  7. Yes, it is amazing but that doesn't mean we needed help from aliens. Look at some of the accomplishments of the Egyptians and Romans.  How about guys like Da Vinci?  l can't think of any branch of science which has not made huge technological advances during the past century.  One breakthrough feeds another and they spread across fields.

That said, it is as if time is speeding up!
