Gustav vanishing would certainly shut up those atheists.

  1. I would not interfere what God put it in his power to do.

  2. Actually, we'd all be very intrigued. We'd be trying to figure out why a weather pattern calmed!

I'm amused by your desire to "shut us up." Aww. Christian love. :3

But since, in a study, prayer had no effect on people undergoing heart surgery, perhaps you should stop praying for its victims and donate to the relief effort instead.

  3. No it wouldn't.  Seeing all of the failed prayers out there, I would just consider you lucky..  Prayer has a rather horrible track record..

  4. Absolutely.  We can pray that Gustav will not be destructive.  It is possible.  Nothing is impossible with God.

  5. Yes, of course.

  6. i agree that praying NOW for the problem to be averted with minimal damage would be the most productive way to pray currently

as to it being enough to shut up atheists - com on!  a man died, was buried and rose PUBLICLY from the dead and STILL there are those who proclaim themselves atheists

when we had a hurricane hit the uk back in the 1980's i was praying like mad because it felt like nothing i had ever come across before.  i was scared for my life unlike the millions here who had gone to sleep before it kicked off.  the miracle there was that despite the enormous amount of devastation - deaths were in single figures.  roves were ripped off houses and caravans turned upside down and trees uprooted and thrown about yet very few people were injured let alone killed.

no one in the uk had experienced anything like this in the uk before (or since) - but it didn't cause people to reassess their atheistic beliefs one little bit

but i know that the lord did keep the people of Britain safe amid the storm and am thankful for that

  7. Yes, by all means pray for the hurricane to just "go away"

And when it does not? What will you do? Blame the atheists for not praying? Find an excuse for why it was God's intention?

Actions speak louder than words, and if you had a true heart, you would be ready to stand up and deliver after the hurricane has done it's damage and those people need food and shelter...not prayers and sing-songs

  8. Sure go ahead, pray while it tears down houses, then pray again after.

Don't even bother going tot he basement, sky daddy will save you.

  9. Yes it is better to pray that way however not knowing how God works you could be praying for something that may bring some to the fold.  You could just as easily pray for those that will go through this tough time.

Many wonderful things have been showed to the unfaithful and they still choose not  to believe.  Even the Israelites strayed and they saw with their own eyes all  the plagues and miracles.  Humans are rather stupid.

  10. cough::: "BRAINWASHED!" ::::cough

  11. Yeah, it'd shut them up, all right...wonder why God doesn't just make it disappear...

  12. start praying and find for yourself

  13. I am a believer, but hurricanes are a necessary part of nature. Maybe we should pray that people will stop building homes on the Gulf. Meteorologists have been saying this for decades.

  14. You really think so?  Come on.  When the rabbi's who rejected Christ were told by the roman guards at his grave that he had come back to life, they didn't even blink, they just gave the guards some money and told them to keep quiet.

  15. Yes we should pray, pray that God's will be done. Everything that God does is for a reason even when we don't understand. But one thing we fail to understand is that prayer is so powerful, prayer can change anything. Right now praying the first thing that we all should do and we should seek God for answers. We should believe in what we pray and if you believe by faith in what you pray for, God will be faithful to you and your prayers.

But also remember this, our faith in God's power must not be seperated from our faith in God's will. God has the power to do many things which He does not will to do. That does not nullify our faith, but it tests our faith to see if it will be in submission o His will.

  16. Ahhhh, a wise one appears. Good thinking.

  17. How about compromise.

Pray as hard and as often as you want, while driving up Route 55 to Memphis.

  18. What in the h**l does  a hurricane have to do with atheists?  Are you insane?

  19. Yup. Prayer is always better than doing something useful.

  20. I am not sure that by praying in either direction you have suggested here, we are going to be able to offer anyone any real help at all. If in fact this natural disaster occurs and causes great destruction, we will see that our prayers were not able to assist people in avoiding whatever harm the storm caused them. If we pray for the victims afterwards, although it might make us feel good for trying to help in some way, in reality those people are going to need actual tangible help in order to put their lives back together.

I am not suggesting in any way that one should not do what they think is best in this or any other similar situation. When disaster strikes, those who feel compelled, do what they can to help in whatever way they feel is the most effective. There is obviously nothing wrong with this, but there is a way that one can do more, and that to understand why all these things are happening in the first place.

Until we see the reason for all the death and destruction in the world, all the pain and suffering that it causes, and learn how we as individuals can make a difference, we can only sit by and wait for more of the same until we do. It is common for groups of people, be it relgious or political, to attempt to make changes in this world, based on what they feel is most beneficial. But perhaps the truth is, that each person must do their own part first.

I have attached an awesome video that explains a method we can use to do just that, and I think you might find it helpful in answering your question. Best wishes.

  21. God has given us plenty of high ground.  We unwisely choose to live below sea level. Move!

  22. praying is useless cause it will be god´s plan

  23. Prayer for the hurricane to go out to sea is a good prayer to pray.  With prayer though we need to be practical and prepare to evacuate so that there will not be any victims.

  24. Prayers are always the best line of defense, but sometimes God makes the hurricanes, so I don't know if He'd appreciate us praying for it to go away.

  25. You ******* a*****e. I'm not a Christian, but you should know better than this. Hurricane Gustav is not an opening for you to rub prayer in peoples' faces. It is a time to actually do something to help the people who will be affected by this horrible storm. Go **** yourself.
