  1. Some advantages to running outdoors are:

Most people find it less boring

You can run downhill, which is good if you're training for some sort of outdoor race that includes hills

Running on the more uneven surfaces outside helps you build up the little muscles that provide stabilization and support to your joints - good if you're gonna be playing sports

You can run on trails, which can be softer and easier on your joints than a treadmill

Then again, on a treadmill you don't have to worry about the weather, traffic, safety, or the time of day, and you can control your speed and the hilliness precisely.

So, it all depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

  2. if ur training for cross country or track then of course outside is better, for thats where you will be having your races and practices. however, if your just trying to lose weight, i'd say tread..

  3. I have a HUGE preference for outdoors.  I actually get hamstring injuries on the treadmill because the backward movement of the belt doesn't allow you to push off, therefore it both doesn't allow it to strengthen, and it doesn't give it the natural stretch.  Also as a result of the movement of the belt, the speed is overreported, and this goes up as you go faster.  Anyway, it's also just plain boring.

  4. Some researchers believe that each of us has an instinctive need called biophilia -- a longing to be one with nature. Biophilia is why sitting on a park bench for 15 minutes , running outside can produce such contentment and stress release. It's what makes us look out the window wistfully when stuck inside on a sunny day. Thats the reason I prefer outside.  Breathing in that fresh air...scenery...

Running outside is harder than running on treadmills.  You are using more muscles and energy.  Treadmill running can be especially taxing on the hamstrings and calves because it doesn't provide the degree of stability necessary for these muscles to operate efficiently.

In conclusion, I think its better to run outside than on treadmills.

    run happy :)

  5. both are equally good.

it depends, do you want to stay in one place, or roam around while exercising??

  6. it depends what you like.

if you like actually getting somewhere while getting hot and sweaty then you should run out doors.( thats what i prefer b/c i get really bored on treadmills) but if you like staying in one spot, usualy in air conditioning then a treadmill would be the best for you.

  7. outdoors is much better, not just physically but also mentally which I feel is about just as important for running

  8. It doesn't really matter, it's your preference. I get bored on the treadmill and enjoy the fresh air and sights of running outdoors. But, if you're getting the same milage on both it doesn't really matter.

It's only more important to run outdoors if you're getting ready for cross country. If you are, you want to get used to running on grass, dirt, trails, hills, and different terrain. I hope that helped.

  9. outdoors is better as you get more fresh air ...but if ur living in a crowded city ..then better use the treadmill

  10. If you are just trying to lose weight, then sure, the treadmill is fine. When I first started running, I would use the treadmill because in my opinion, it is MUCH easier than running outside.

However, I never use the treadmill anymore.  Since many believe the treadmill is easier on you, since the speed of it can force you to keep going at a speed, if you ever plan on running a 5k or any type of race, you MUST train outside.
