I dont' think it's haram, in fact some men don't have enough facial hair to grow more than a goatee. But cutting your beard into a goatee tends to make you look like a Marxist, and that would be imitating the fashion style of the disbelievers.

Okay, kidding aside, it is all in  how someone makes it up.  Nothing is haram.
