  1. Not really any more sexist than only one female Congressional Medal of Honor winner out of 3448 awarded.

  2. To answer this question, no. There are lots of awards given exclusively to certain groups of people who have achieved something big, hardly anyone is complaining. Why are you letting it get to you?

    In response to patois:

The Congressional Medal of Honor is awarded to those few who have demonstrated extraordinary bravery and valor beyond expectation on the battlefield. Basically, it's awarded only to those who have either died, or come within an inch of death doing something for their fellow comrades. One good example, a Navy Seal who threw himself on top of a live grenade in order to save his friends from taking the blast themselves. They sent the Medal to his now widowed wife. http://www.navytimes.com/news/2008/03/na...

So it's ridiculous to suggest that it's somehow "sexist" that only one woman has received the Medal of Honor. When more women start doing more things on the battlefield that makes them DESERVE the award, you will see that number rise.

  3. Men already have them.  Think of all of the positions of power in the government and in the military where women are blocked from or weeded out,  but the men are welcomed and ushered through to earn opportunities to earn special awards and/or advancement.  Then these men are congratulated and awarded as part of the sexist cycle that restricts women.  This does NOT mean that women are unqualified.  It happens because these remain unfair, sexist places where women are pushed aside in favor of men, and the men get recognition and awarded.  I don't think a lot of men look at it that way, but it happens at many places of employment all the time.  The problem is that too many sexist, egotistical people allow themselves to believe that women just don't measure up to the men and that's why men get the awards they get.  These same people dump on feminists who know what's really going on here:  Some men are just sexist pigs and they feel less manly when they see women proving themselves and pulling their weight just as the men do.  Those men shut out the women and then claim the women just didn't measure up.  I have no doubt at all that plenty of women would have risked their lives to save the lives of others.  Some women would have thrown themselves on a grenade to save their platoon if given the opportunity....But I guess some men in this world just can't handle that.

  4. rgw question is a sexist

  5. aww be nice, on some fields women cant compete at the same level as men, so let them have their own lil prices.

PATOIS how is it sexist only one medal of honor has been awarded to a female ? Is their a study showing that deserving women were not awarded one ? Please do tell. How many women have thrown their bodies on a life grenade sacrifying their life for the platoon ? You dont exactly get a medal of honor for making your nails in the face of the enemy and few have been awarded in the past generally, because due to carefull planning superior equipment and a carefull approach over the top bravery wasnt required yet.

  6. You can also Google the

    African American Business Awards:

"This evening, in celebration of African American History Month, we salute five outstanding businesspeople whose skill, ingenuity, creativity, and talent have distinguished them as leaders in their fields," said Mayor Giuliani. "Tonight's honorees have an impressive record of achievement and provide inspiration to businesspeople in every field, of every background, religion, age, and skin color -- and especially to young people who aspire to become tomorrow's leaders. The hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of tonight's honorees should inspire all New Yorkers. They serve as role models for the members of all communities in our City."

What about the The Esquao Awards?

"Over twenty indigenous women from Alberta were celebrated this month for their profound and unique contributions to Alberta's indigenous communities."

And the NEA National Heritage Awards?

"A way of honoring American folk artists for their contributions to our national cultural mosaic."

    What about The Olympics?

    The Boy Scouts?

Are the above groups n***s?  Or are they COMMUNITIES?

Why should any of the above groups have their own awards?

There are hundreds of thousands of communities of artists, musicians, athletes, Norwegian sushi chefs - and even American women engineers - who acknowledge outstanding contributors of their membership publicly with awards.

  7. Yes, I think it is very sexist.  Women's work should either be judged on an equal level with men, or not judged at all.

it should only be necessary to have seperate categories where there is an incapacity on the part of women to compete on an equal level with men, as in sporting events for instance.  If you didn't have seperate women's events, hardly any sporting contests would be won by women, because there are very few sports where they can compete equally with men.

Having seperate contests for women novelists, engineers etc, is like an admission that women can't compete on an equl footing with men in these areas.

  8. Let me guess. "Thats sexist"

  9. They have awards for men. You seem so caught up with yourself. Both genders were made by the creator and he made them equal. Its a shame you can't seem to grasp that concept.

  10. You do have awards for men.

Now go play with your Transformers. :)

  11. Think of it as a temporary measure to make women's work more visible. It's been proven about fifty separate times that people rate music, art, books and scientific papers higher when they're told it was created by a man than if you say a woman made it.

(Remember that J K Rowling was advised to use her initials and not make her s*x known until the books started selling. And that orchestra in New York who wondered why they had so few female musicians... then they started making all applicants audition while sitting behind a screen, and the percentage of women miraculously went up to about 50%.)

Many types of awards reflect this kind of thinking - do you seriously think men keep winning the literary Nobel Prize because they write all the good books?

  12. Of course it's sexist, but the whole world's sexist.

  13. It ensures that women are recognized for their work, since men tend to ignore womens contributions in everything in favour of other men.

  14. no
