  1. It is a bit sexist because, all the pressure is on the mother to be absolutely perfect, in addition to being the best mom there is.  Even though the father has equal responsibility, our society is quick to cut him some slack.  Unfortunately, negligence is much more acceptable from the father, but not the mother.

A lot of Britney's negative attention is derived from her previous seemingly flawless persona over the last decade.    Once people saw that Britney really was human after all, they quickly turned on her and exploited every last little mishap in her not so perfect life.

So all the Britney bashing isn't only because she's a chick, but just because she's Britney.

  2. nope fine to me

  3. No

  4. It's just as sexist as picking on K-Fed for having no talent BESIDES parenting, which isn't sexist at all.

  5. I thinks its garbage the c**p they write about her. What has she done as a parent that was any worse then what others have done? She's a huge crowd drawer, they are harsh on her because she brings in the ratings. Its pretty scary the control that the media has on the way people think, they effectively made her ex husband who is a drinking and drugging loser look like a great guy.

Oh and to the woman who said she puts her kids out there, she didn't use nannies and the photographers are up her a$$ more than any other celebrity. She can't walk out of her front door without causing a frenzy.

I think a lot of people were glad to see her downfall, after years of being America's sweetheart and everyone talking about how hot she was. Throwing every little thing she said in her face. I used to say I would be virgin forever, yeah thats what I thought at the time! They judge her to a fault. Its kind of like HA, who's hot now? Not me though.

  6. Oh no, she's the perfect parent.  I'll guess part of it is the media's shark feeding frenzy...and part of it is publicity for a lagging career.  Besides women love gossip...

  7. Both Britney and Michael were bad, bad, bad to their children but I have had the impression that Michael has always been bad. Britney promised to stay a virgin until she married and she has always been a Christian. I don't know who made her the bad girl she is today.

  8. Yes, I think it's sexist, but I think it's because we as a society have such different expectations of mothers compared to fathers.  Maybe what's not fair is thinking of the father as the secondary parent and the mother as the primary.  I think people look at the strong mothers that Lisa Marie and Kelly have had as helping to make up for their dads' problems.  We're not as ready to see it the other way around.

  9. Look at it this way: you avidly place yourself in public life, then you lose it, go around off your face a lot of the time and "forgetting" to wear underwear and then have a bizarre marriage and become a mother but are rarely een doing any parenting....people will talk, sorry.

Men who do the same thing ARE called into question as well.

This tendency to worry so much about a celebrity's children came about quite recently and is inpart due to wome's gossip magazines looking for stories, and making them up when they cant find them.

Michaels Jackson has been rightly castigated for his poor and bizzae parenting habits.  Remember that the tendency to focus on women here is due to the fact that this area of concern is manufactured by women, for women and invite comment and opinion by women.  Focusing on men is less of a story, and women are often VERY critical of other women.  Harrison Ford, for instance, might be old but he does not wander around town off his head and forgetting to wear underwear, and has, so far as i know, been a good parent.

    EDIT:

How is it not sexist?  Let me give you my take on it: You need to remove your thinking from the idea that criticism of a woman or mother is necessarily sexist.  If I make a statement regarding Britney Spears, then I am making it about her.  That she is a woman is incidental, in the same manner that M.Jackson is a man when I criticise him.  With your logic, women who are bad mothers are beyond critical comment because of their gender.  Sorry, I don't have to play t*t-for-tat and level equal numbers of criticisms at men to balance out the very few I actually make against women who are bad parents.

Fathers do cop critical comments as well.

  10. You have a point, but that seems to be the case in the media, for example the emphasis on Madonna turning 50 or Sharon Stone's age, whereas nobody comments on George Clooney/Harrison Ford's age in a negative way in the media, at least not what I have seen.

  11. well 1st of all neither of the other parents kids have put themselves out in the public like Britney Spears has. Personally, Britney is nothing but a spoiled little girl and is not a very good influence on any young girl. I am personally glad she gave up her son's to her ex-husband. As emotional disturbed as she is,those kids would wind up in CPS before they were 4yrs because of her antics.

Besides Britney, if not careful, will wind up in jail or in a hospital very sick, at the rate she is going.
