Ok, So I've had this neon tetra for a LONG time now, at least 4 years. So I got a second fish, which was a tad bigger, not sure of the type, though. They've gotten along fine until last night when the slightly bigger fish, ate my neon tetra. ( I know because I couldnt find my tetra, and my clear fish had blue and red stripe in its stomach )

Just a few hours after it ate my tetra, it died.

Anybody know how this happened?

  1. well, the fish the other fish ate could be poisonus to the bigger fish. or the bigger fishes stomach was to delecate to just suddenly eat a different food

  2. Not sure because you don't know the type of fish you bought. If the fish is small enough to fit in its mouth it will try to eat it.

Not to sound mean but next time do some research to choose the right fish for your tank so you wont have to go through that again.

    Good luck :)

  3. Woah, I would say that the neon tetra may have still been alive in the bigger tetras stomach and thrashed around and coused internal damager. Why would just have 1 neon tetra?? They are a schooling fish for you need 5 or 6 of them or the single one will have no motovation to swim so it just stays in the same place and the bigger tetra probably is a schooling, too. Next time, get more tetra.

  4. firstly neon tetras need to school in groups of 6+

secondly never buy a pet without researching its needs and compatibility first
