my mother gets bloody angry whenever i talk back to her like a rapper. i call it easy, "you be on me to do work? i been done dat already". she thinks my "degenerative modes of speech are habit-forming and may affect the development of my intelligence" (she studied shake spear in college).......but isn't it true that all languages even english are fated to get simpler and simpler with time, as words like "went" get thrown out for "goed". isn't this also why we don't have noun declinsions like old english and why we don't have click or pulse sounds like africans? aren't i just a victim of fate, and her wrong to impart her old-person standards on me? thx

  1. If you are happy with it that's OK, but what about us poor buggers who are trying to understand you, you don't give us a break and try to meet us halfway, you want to make complete changes, not over a time limit, but you want it yesterday. You want things to change and can't wait for it This is a formula for terrorism, so beware your attitude. Your mother loves you, and it's because she loves you that she imparts her,  (what you call) old-person standards on you.

  2. it has nothing to do with fate you made the decision to talk that way. It makes people sound uneducated.

  3. Listen to the politicians, newscasters, and business people. The vast majority speak standard English. As their livelihood depends on their communications skills, they use the most effective language.

What you are attempting to speak is a dialect, not a simpler version of the English language.  Dialects are regional or group related, and identify the speaker. There's generally a negative stereotype attached to each dialect.

There's nothing wrong with speaking any dialect you want. You don't need to worry about an "old person standard". That said, you'll likely be seen as a poser by those that really speak the dialect and not be hired by the "old person(s)" that do interviews and hire people. Extreme dialects are not employment enhancers.
