  1. "Isn't oppression telling someone that cant run for public office because of their religious convictions?"

depends on what their religious convictions are, as i don't want someone in public office who say things we should sacrifice young virgins to his/her god..

"It is currently illegal in the USA to hold public office as an atheist."

    where does it say that?

  2. I think that is only a law in select states. I have not heard about this being done on the national level

  3. Even if it says that, I doubt it will be enforce. Like jaywalking.

  4. That's really dumb. I don't see why not, they're humans to! Capable of running...

    weird.

  5. I wonder, but I don't vote for an atheist.

  6. Someone please provide a reference for the seven states where this is supposedly illegal.

I know GH Bush said atheists don't count as real Americans, or somesuch nonsense....

  7. I gotta be honest and say I don't think it is.

Seven state constitutions forbid atheists, but nothing in the national one I know of.

It's essentially impossible to hold national office as an atheist, as 51% of the population would not vote for one regardless of agreement on the issues, but I know of nothing making it illegal.

If I'm wrong please give me details and cite and I will admit error gladly.

  8. Just in some states, I thought, not all.
