  1. It's legal for licenced hunters during sealing season.

I think the European Union might have banned Canadian seal pelts to protect the European sealers but they have no control over Canadian law.

WTF is up with people giving thumbs down for not lying?

  2. Yes, the seal hunt is legal.  It is part of the livelihood of some Newfoundlanders, some people from the Magdalen Islands, and others from other parts of Atlantic Canada.  It is also part of the way of life and livelihood of the Inuit people throughout Canada.  It is legal.

  3. The only people that can judge just how 'sick' seal hunting is are vegans who don't wear leather or use ANY products derived from animals.  In other words, very few people.

Seal hunting is no worse than the way cows and baby calves are killed every second of the day for fancy steak restaurants and summer bbq season.

Just because the meat you buy in the store is all neatly packaged, it doesn;t mean the animal didn't suffer.

  4. It is legal.  Here's a site that helps eliminate the myths from fact.

  5. It is legal, yes. The seals have to be mature adults (which means nobody is out killing the cuddly white baby seals), and the hunt is closely monitored, both by the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans and outside organisations such as Greenpeace and the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

There are plenty of myths, mistruths and outright lies surrounding the hunt, and lots of strong rhetoric on both sides. Supporters of the hunt see it as a necessary economic activity that has traditionally gone on for years and years, and it's no different than hunting any other animals in the wild. Those against the hunt see it as a barbaric and unnecessary slaughter. I'm not even going to wade into the debate over whether it's right or not, that's for you to decide on your own, but it is a very legal activity, I assure you.

Here's what I will state, as far as opinions go. The killing of any animal at any time is never a pretty sight, and blood shows up rather gruesomely against a backdrop of white snow. Certain environmental groups use it as the best propaganda for fundraising for their cause, because it ain't pretty.

  6. Its Legal Yeah ☺☺☺☺☻☻☻✈☺

  7. It's legal. Check this wikipedia site:

    2008 Canadian commercial seal hunt

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Canadi...

  8. The hunting of harp seal pups (whitecoats) and hooded seal pups (bluebacks) is illegal – and has been since 1987.

The seals that are hunted are self-reliant, independent animals.

The seal hunt is closely monitored and tightly regulated. Fishery Officers conduct surveillance of the hunt by means of aerial patrols, surface (vessel) patrols, dockside inspections of vessels at landing sites and inspections at buying and processing facilities.

Infractions are taken seriously and sealers who fail to comply with Canada’s Marine Mammal Regulations are penalized.

Note to Acacris:  Note that it's illegal to hunt the PUPS, not the adult seals.

  9. It's legal in Canada, along with 3 other countries. Other countries, including the US put a complete ban on it except for the Native Americans, who are allowed to hunt only a small amount a year. Go to Wikipedia.com and search on seal hunting.

  10. Not only is it legal, but they actually club them to death rather than just killing them quickly with a rifle.  It's sick.

  11. I normally agree with Tonalac but the Harp seal hunt goes on every year and Paul Macartney and his then wife heather were on Larry King Live trying to put a stop to it

It is the livelyhood of thousand of people in Newfoundland and the seals eat billions of $ in fish every month

If you want the facts for your paper  wikipedia.com will give you all the details

There are quotas and they were 275 thousand (Harp Seals ) and 270 thousand.

I cant believe our Government would say such a thing as it is illegal

  12. Yes, it is legal, as long as they are NOT white coats.  They are baby seals less than 9 days old.  In response to the above answerer, it is not just the livelihood of Newfoundlanders.  People in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Quebec also depend on the seal hunt as well.
