New Zealand even looked a bit intimidated when the Froggies stood a couple of yards away and Chabal gave them kiwis the"evil eye"!

  1. As an Englishman i say just enjoy the spectacle that is the Haka and how the opposition react.

I seriously doubt professional athletes are actually intimidated by it.

And yeah L'Homme De Cavernne (Sebastien Chabal) fronting up to you would be bloody terrifying.

  2. Computer automated response...

The haka should be performed before the anthems, when new zealand / south sea island teams are playing away.

The home nations anthem must have the final word in ceremonies.

This tradition too is of equal importance.

  3. This question is a bit old hat too. Yes NZ lost and France won...lets talk about the game and how great it was...and not sink to new lows and disrespect the Maori culture because the All Blacks lost.  The Haka is awesome and I enjoy watching it.

  4. yes ha ha ha I agree and I said it all along they must've been petrified, probably thought Chabal would run them down with an axe or some club or something

  5. I think it is pathetic to watch.............

  6. There has been some whinging that other teams "do not respect the haka"

    Well, I'm sorry.

As soon as they sold out to Adidas they showed that tey are happy to sell their precious tradition and heritage for a mess of potage.

The whole thing is silly. Why are they allowed it? Do the Kiwi cricket team do a haka before test matches? Or the kiwi swimming team? Of course not.

If it was a big  traditional deal, then why do they change it? Why did the do that version with the throat slitting?

    It's just bollocks

For the sake of their tradition they should be allowed their haka BUT

before the national anthems. That way it gets relegated to just another silly song and not an act of aggression just before kick off

  7. There's more to the Haka than a bit of a performance at a game.  It goes back centuries into Maori culture - so calling a "bit old hat" is a bit disrespectful.

  8. NO............it is traditional and most teams and their supporters  love to see it!

  9. It's all theatre...enjoy the spectacle!!

  10. The Haka is a challenge to an adversery and to have them stand up and face the challenge is a mark of respect to our boys and also an indication of  the intestinal fortitude of our oppisition.

What happened in the game happened, But the way the opposition stood up and faced the Haka makes them good blokes, at least in my book

  11. i thought the haka and the french response cranked up the atmosphere tonight - keep it in.

  12. my mate is a kiwi and before the game he rang me to place the obligatory wager, well he aint taking calls this morning.i mailed him to say the haka looked like a bunch of boys miming to y.m.c.a. -that will go down real well!!

  13. The Haka is ultimately for the players.  They don't actually care how the opposition responds if they 'toe the line' or retreat in a huddle or do warm-ups during it.  It's a representation of the team, their heritage and what they stand for.

It's ludicrous to say that NZ were intimidated because the Haka's not done to intimidate in the first place.

  14. I think it's splendid. I think England should perform a Morris Dance or that crazy fish-slapping sequence from Monty Python as  a suitable response...Let's not be beastly to the Kiwis.

  15. I actually like to watch it,but i also like to watch the response from the team they are playing. When the french fronted them up tonight i thought they were going to make them pay for it.

  16. When they've finished, wouldn't it be great if the opposition just all stuck two fingers up in return?

  17. I don't know how the opposition keep a straight face.

    It's entertaining to watch though!

  18. it has unfortunatly as said above become a marketing tool . though intresting to note that SA have a zulu haka and they perform it in the dressing room. would like to see that.

  19. Well, I think the French were well out of order.  Wasn't it Doanl Lenihan who did the same thing? I think it enlivens the start.  We could have the England XV doing morris dancing, the Scots could have a quick extract from the White Heather Club, the Irish could have a quick blast at the Rver Dance.  In fact, we could turn the whole thing into a dance competition and avoid all these nasty injuries.
