Isn't there a more HUMANE way of getting rid of mice??!!?

We just recently discovered that we have mice but they are just the little bitty field mice and they are so cute! My step-dad is completely heartless when it comes to animals in pain but I can't handle it. He sets out those glue traps and I just found one stuck on it. It was squeaking and I seriously cried because it's just horrible to see! I feel so bad for it!! But my step-dad is being a jerk about it and is completely careless .. he says there's no other way. Please someone tell me there is a more HUMANE way to get rid of them! Or at least a less painful way for them to die. It just seems so evil!!

  1. In my mind, the common snap trap is more humane than the glue trap.  Usually it kills them instantly.  I hate the glue trap.

At the hardware store you can buy a trap that electrocutes the mouse.  It costs more, but it can kill more mice too; you use it over and over and over.  Bait it with a piece of dry cat food or a Cheerio or something, set it, and when the mouse goes in for the bait, it's instantly electrocuted.  You dump the dead mouse, throw the bait back in, and set it again.  That's the most humane way I can think of to kill them.

You could get a live trap, but then you'd have to relocate them a good distance from your home, and frankly those mice do breed rapidly; I personally don't feel the need to encourage them.  I just think humans are not meant to be cruel.

  2. Look into live traps made for rodents. That way you can catch them and take them to a nearby wooded/field area (AWAY from other homes) and release them there!

    (:

Edit: The link is an example of what you can look for, either online or in stores.

  3. yeah the person who answered first that is a good answer. but don't use them for squirrels..( were in our vent)we thought we were being nice  by getting someone to put on of those up and we wnded up killing it by accident! :'(

  4. Do a search for humane mouse traps, PETA also has one, buy a cat, that is quick... or adopt one and save its life from the pound Good luck

  5. Yes and thank you :) I HATE the mean traps they sell at the stores you could get a humane trap and put them in a not so populated area like in a corn field you should be able to get them at a tools shop like menards (tipeo sorry)

  6. the only humane way to kill them is fast.My husband works for a pest control company, did you know that when you put a mouse in a trap,it cant move around as much and it freezes to death.weird.so i guess fast would be the only way to go.

  7. I have to strongly disagree with Amberdawn. Absolutely there are humane traps out there that do work extremely well. (See link below)  Just make sure that when you release them, it's in a spot far from any other homes/structures and with plenty of brush to hide in.

I am truly horrified when I hear that people use glue boards, one of the cruelest products I've ever seen.

  8. Unfortunately there is not  when looking at devices to get rid of them. The only way to truly get rid of mice/rats is by using glue traps, poison bait, or mice/rat traps that break their necks. All are very unpleasant. People have tried humane traps for mice, but they can and will return to the place they consider home upon release.

It may be wise to consider getting a cat. Yes, they will kill the mice, but after a while the mice will leave.

  9. step on them!!!

    step on them all!!!1

  10. peta has a humane mouse trap and it works

  11. well, there is live traps that you bait with food anb put them where you see the mice. the mice go in and they arent killed, you take the trap away from your house and open it and they jump out!!

  12. take a bucket and put something mice like to eat into the bucket and leave a little peice of wood leading to the top of the bucket so it can get into the bucket but not out  then chek in the morning to see if there are any mice

and if ur dad wants to kill the mice then try and wake up before him and chek to see

    gd luck

  13. Well, the most humane way to  get rid of mice is set out humane traps and release them into a field or some woods.

Ask your step-dad to feel like he was that little mouse, stuck in the glue. Tell him how much it upsets you.

I understand how you feel. Growing up, my parents didn't support me with the humane traps. I asked them to buy the humane ones and they thought it was silly, because my mom hated rats and my dad didn't care either.
