Hi my family and i moved to usa 1 year ago. First it was ok when we used to work at a warehouse but for the last few months we are having a lot of problems as that warehouse is not giving us proper working hrs. If this continues we have to go back to our country which is a nightmare for us.We came here with dreams but now. I live at Dublin,Ohio . Here i have applied at many places but noone calls us .Being a fulltime student i also can't work without weekends. My parents aren't that fluent in English but that is not their fault. They need time but we also need job. Please help me out.

  1. You could babysit thats alot of money

  2. How many people in your family are you talking about? How old are they? What kinds of work can they do? What language do you speak? Is there a community of other people who speak your language in your area?

There are employment agencies that use day laborers. This is rough, where people come to a place early in the morning every day and hope someone will come by to ask them to work that day. Check the phone book yellow pages under Employment Agencies or perhaps Laborers.

If there is a community of people who speak your language, let them know you're looking for work and ask where there are places that will hire non-citizens with little English.

These One Stop offices are run by the state government. You can go to any of them. I have listed the three that might be closest to you.

They can help get your parents into training to learn English and job skills. They also help with employment, of course.

Delaware County One Stop: doesn't seem to have a good website. Check in the phone book for their number.

Franklin County: http://www.centralohioworkforce.org Contact info: Gailmarie Harris

    Ph: (614) 559-5059

    Director of Workforce Services

    Email: gmharris@cowic.org

    Union County: http://www.unioncountyjobs.org/

or call toll free (866) 645-2018

They can also refer you for help with utility bills, food, etc, if you ask.

  3. The best bet is just to apply for a lot of jobs. Sometimes you have to apply for 30 or 40 before you are hired for one.

When your parents have time, English lessons will really improve their employment prospects. Some churches and community centers offer ESL (English as a Second Language) classes for free.

Also, try to find other people from your country and see if they know anyone who is hiring. (Example: If you are from Greece, maybe there is a Greek community center or a Greek church nearby?) Someone who speaks your native language is much more likely to hire your parents, because they can communicate.
