  1. How cool is that.  He will make a difference in his own jurisdiction.  But to actually get other sheriffs and cops to do it would really get The ball rolling.


  2. I think that's very commendable. What abgreat way to gain some empathy for what the inmates are going through...every cop should experience this as part of their training to understand what a scary and disorienting experience it can be. I especially like that this man is trying to create awareness for the overcrowding of jails by the mentally ill. As someone who works with that population, I think it is a travesty that they are placed in jails instead of in a closed facility where they can receive psychotherapy and medication.

He will make a difference in his own small way.  He seems realistic when he states that mentally ill people don't belong in jail, and I say neither do drug addicts, drug offenders, and poor people in general.  However, jails and prisons are one of the fastest growing industries in the US, so you better get used to being out-shouted by those whose only reply is to build more prisons...

  4. Sounds more like there is an election coming up to me.

    Had he gone in there incognito then perhaps he may have learnt the truth.
