Yes, "for the first time in human history" we can actually observe this happening.  

Consider for a moment that if you just take the data in the article and remove the Global Warming spin,could it be possible that this could be a normal planetary cycle?  This is a breakup of the northern ice.  Not a complete meltoff.

Has the Arctic ice been dated in the same way we have dated the Antarctic?  The article doesn't tell us the last time a breakup like this one may have occurred.

Russians already have several warships, research vessels, deep-sea subs and a deep-sea drilling ship hovering on standby.

They claim the arctic up till the very edge of Alaska- don't think they're amused or have forgotten the sale of that prize.

But realistically- it is the US who has contributed the greatest amnount of CO2 to the air prior to China overtaking them.

So your premise is Russia should refreeze the Arctic to clean up the US' mess?
