Isn’t He Clever – one to watch out for in the Jersey Shore Stakes at Monmouth Park
The Grade 3 Jersey Shore Stakes will take place at Monmouth Park on 14th July, 2012, where six sophomores will compete over the distance of six furlongs, with the hope of taking home the money.
The $100,000 race has attracted a small but, an extremely talented field of runners who are all carrying equal weights of 116 pounds.
Among this line-up, Isn’t He Clever has stirred a significant amount of attention, based on his previous racing record.
Trained by Steven M. Asmussen for owners Kirk and Judy Robison, the gelding seems to be in good shape. Over the course of this season, he has secured only one victory but, might be able to collect another in this mega-race.
The victory for the son of Smarty Jones, out of mare Sharp Minister, came early in the season, when he competed in the Borderland Derby on 25th
February, 2012, at Sunland Park, over the distance of 1 1/16 miles, where he completed the race in 1 minute and 43 seconds flat and finished before, Zackn'mat.
The Kentucky bred will have to tone-up a great deal and work with rider, Mike Luzzi. The duo has to be on their best game as soon as they make their entry from post 3.
The runner has performed below par in his last two races, having secured an eighth place finish in Grade 1 Arkansas Derby and, a seventh place finish in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes.
Isn’t He Clever will also have a benefit because of his familiarity with the dirt track and, he will be able to work that to his advantage.
Teamed with jockey Angel Serpa and, entering from post 5, Wildcat Creek will be aiming for a triumph and it might as well be possible considering he looks in decent shape since he recently finished second to Street Haven in an Allowance Race at Monmouth
Park over six furlongs.
Having prior experience at similar distance will definitely help the son of Wildcat Heir. He seems to be getting better with every race and, it is time for him to score since his season is shy of a victory.
