Seriously....who would play ping pong as profession besides chinese -_-

I thought olympic events were supposed to be popular among many countries

Since softball is dominated by US and now its gone

I think table tennis should be gone

Soft ball only counts for 1 medal

but China won 8 medals 4 gold 2 silver 2 bronze

and 2nd country who won most medal in table tennis was south korea with 2bronze -_-

  1. I agree. I was cringing on my seat when I saw grown men playing with a small ball on top of a table. I was like WTF?

  2. Why do you care about the medal count dude?

If you're honest, you can see amazing athleticism in ping pong.

And there are tremendous inconsistencies in the medal count elsewhere - like in any team event that counts for only one, but involves the efforts of so many.

So don't worry about the medal count. It's not about that anyway.

  3. Actually I'd vote Badminton off the Olympic Island, if I had my choice

  4. Yeah, yeah.  Softball is dominated by Japanese and baseball by Koreans.  And no, table tennis is not absurd.  I'm sure you haven't ever played it.

  5. Ping pong makes sense to me - just like volleyball.  If you want to get rid of particular sports, get rid of anything decided by judges.  Gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, diving, synchronized swimming - gone.  I want sports where the person who scores the most points or crosses the line first wins.

  6. hey, you are such a jerk! the reason why Chinese athletes won so many medals is that they really excelled at this field and dominated the competition. U.S. did send some athletes to participate but they suck so much. most of them did not even qualify for the semi-final. They suck! U.S.  sucks!  China rules!

Beijing Olympics is the BEST one EVER!

  7. If sewing clothes, making shoes, or assembling TV sets ever makes it to the olympics the Chinese will clean up there, too.

  8. To people who think that Ping Pong is only played by kids...

Tiger Woods and many of pro-golfers are avid ping-pong players.  Read up on it, you will be surprised.

It requires high athleticism, fast reaction time, agility to control the ball, hand-eye coordination, good footwork.

If you never try something, never bash it, it only makes you look like an ignorant fool.

  9. synchronized everything

    thats what needs to go

  10. I agree. At least in badminton the players need to run around. Ping-pong for the most part do not move much... or need to cover a lot of ground to return a shot. It's a basement game like air-hokey or fooze-ball. It really has no place in the Olympics. It's a novelty game. I watched on of the finals, they barely broke a sweat. I've seen more intense fooze-ball matches in my basement.

  11. yea I agree China takes advantage of those sports where hardly any one plays in. China is not a very good team orineted so they have to take advantage of individual sports.

Overrall I think the US has way better atletes

  12. I agree.  Get rid of ping pong and badminton and all those sports the US doesn't do well at.  But, realistically, they will never remove it.  Why?  Because, those racquet sports are real popular in China, India, and those Southeast Asian nations (Indonesia, Phillipines, Malayasia, Thailand, Korea, etc.)

That's over 3 billion people, or about one-half the world's population.  Plus, it's popular in some European countries.  So, I doubt they'd ever remove ping pong.

Softball, on the other hand, is popular in which countries?  The US, Japan, Cuba, and where else?  Maybe Australia.  So, you're talking a relatively small population that would watch the Olympics anyway cuz they're good at other sports.

So while I agree with you that the US, Japan, and Australia are better than China, India, and those southeast asian countries, it ain't gonna happen.  Softball will go and ping-pong will stay because of they're trying to be inclusive or some hogwash like that.

And to the previous poster Yang-whatever your name is -- no, here in Texas only little kids play ping-pong. So, maybe if we sent our 12-yr olds, we'd beat you.  Don't mess with Texas!

    Go USA!!!

  13. I'd have to disagree with you on this one. I think curling is the most absurd sport (if you can call it that).

  14. I know.

And they're taking softball and baseball out. Right...
