Its a behaviour left over from being a kitten.  Kneading the mother's belly stimulates the milk flow.  Mother cats will knead blankets while their kittens are suckling.

In parts of England it's known as "making bread"

its ace, only my cat is huge and has massive paws and he kneads me!, he likes to hold my hand in his paws and grip on too, it really hurts but it's sooo cute i let him, as we speak my hand is covered in little claw holes cos he decided to hold onto me in bed this morning!!! aaaahhh

Yes, it is cute. It is what the kitten does to the mother to help milk flow, and they do it when they are feeling very cozy, it is a happy behavior.

Yes it is precious when they make biscuits, it makes me feel good because I know they are comfortable with me. Sometimes it hurts though with their little retracting claws!

Yes it's very cute - means they are making a bed for themselves.  Not so cute if it's my lap they are kneading though!

Yes, unless it is after one of my cat's Soft Claws has fallen off and she is scratching me with a gigantic claw.
