Question:

Isn`t it funny how the media don`t care about Shannon, but fawned all over the Mc Canns?

Is it because Shannon is from a working class background and the Mc Canns are wealthy middle calss people. I haven`t heard Gordon Brown personally taking an interest in the Yorkshire search!

  1. Shannons disappearance was a 'regular' case, for want of a better word.Meaning there have been a number of similar cases in Britain in the past. She comes from an ordinary working class family, the circumstances of her disappearance look to be that she was snatched  while on her way home and the papers have reported it in a fairly straight forward manner. In Madeleine's case what James said rings true then add to that bungling police,Murat being made suspect, the Parents being questioned, the campaign being started and of course the back biting kicked in.Once that started the story became very lucrative to the media,it sold again and again and oddly the McCann's took the blame for the media churning it out but they in turn needed it to stay highly focused on them to remind people to look for their missing daughter.A no win situation.

If Shannon's case takes a twist the papers will spot an opportunity to make money as that's all that counts to them. They can only keep it front page if the story changes sufficiently to interest the public. That's the sad facts of it.

I'd like to add that the celebrity interest in the McCanns case I feel came as a result of the vicious gossip. Many people were appalled at it.The political interest was due to it being an incident in a foreign country.

  2. Where is Richard Branson, Gordon Brown, Philip Green, The Pope, £1m rewards from news papers, Spin doctors paid by the government, That Easy Greek Chap, David Beckham, Robbie Williams and all the rest of the publicity hungry leaches who really could not give a sht about an little girl from a council estate.

  3. You have it in one, the scumbag Brit press only care for "nice" middle class parents, the working class do not count at all in their eyes. Manipulative scrotes and animals.

  4. It's because of who the McCanns knew in the Media & Government eh?

  5. Spot on. It is about media profile and the McCanns paid a fortune to raise theirs.

  6. "Funny" isn't the word I would use but I take your point.  It has probably got a lot to do with the fact that in Maddies case it happened in Portugal and so became an international issue whereas in this case it appears to be local, and please don't take that as being dismissive.

I watch "Fox" news a lot on Sky and they report on missing children in America which don't make the news here, and believe me, there are a lot of children going missing worldwide which are never reported unless you are actually looking for them.

I think it would be a mistake to try and create some kind of "Class" distinction between these cases, I'm sure the last thing that Shannons mother is bothered about is whether Gordon Brown is going to visit, any more than she is worried about the self righteous criticising her for letting the girl walk home from school alone, but lets give them time.

  7. I think it has more to do with the fact that it's a grubby situation of our own society's making.  The fact that the Mc Canns were in Portugal and was taken from her bed, coupled with the fact that she was a cute 3 or 4 year old made it a more "interesting" story.  It's just the way papers work unfortunately.

On top of that the class may be an issue to an extent, but only inasmuch as the McCanns knew how to manipulate the press to their advantage - Shannon's family may not.  Parents do what they can with the resources available to them. Good luck to them both in their efforts

  8. The truth is that the McCanns have been tortured in the press and by certain lowlife individuals on here who found an outlet for their frustrations caused by the hunting ban. Gerry and Kate have been accused of all manner of vile things including murder and far fetched accusations without one shred of tangible evidence.

Shannons disappearance is tragic but her family have had support and a massive police search is under way which is more than the Portugese boys in blue ever did.

  9. Heard it all before, funny that saw the story on front page of the sun today.

  10. Yes.  Sad but true.

  11. yes, i think it because of the Mc Canns social status as a high income family, they can also afford to advertise and keep the media and police going. I hope the police are doing as much as they can for Shannon too.

  12. poor Shannon, (and Maddie) at least guys we are talking about her on here she is obviously in our thoughts.

It makes me feel ill thinking of how this lass is being kept, i wish children all over the world didn't have to suffer at the hands of adults

  13. Hope they find Maddie and Shannon well.

  14. I know, I think it's a disgrace.

I live in Ireland and McCann case was all over the news all the time, I barely heard about Shannon going missing the day it happened and then saw something brief on the news last night but that's about it!

    Poor kid, hope she's found

  15. How very true.  I have seen virtually nothing in the media about this missing child for days.  There have been a few token interviews and statements but not a single "celebrity" offering a reward for info.  I think one of the "wipen-ver-ars*n" red tops has put up a reward but that's all.

  16. I agree. I think it's disgusting.

  17. The same thing could be said about this site too - where are all the usual contenders today anyway ! ! !

  18. It's not right that Shannons family and the search for her aren't getting as much media attention as Maddie's family got.  At the end of the day this little girl is missing no matter what her background.

I hope they find her soon, safe and well.

  19. no i think it's because the McCanns made a mistake in leaving the kids at home while at dinner and the media as usual like to stirr opinions and infuriate people.

  20. It is an utter disgrace, at the end of the day, if he does it for one child, then he should do it for all missing children.

  21. its ironic isent it

it shows the world what a class obsessed load of hypocrites the british press, media and goverment are

where is richard branson and the pope for a 9 year old girl

shannon got a few lines on page 8 in the metro  yesterday

shame on the british media and the goverment they should hang their bad heads in shame

  22. You are right, it is because Shannons not cute, don't get at ME folks, thats the long and short of it.

  23. The Mccanns story is the biggest pile of c**p i've ever seen. Obviously, there are lots of kids who gets lost every effing day. With all due respect to Mc Canns family, I think they are ridiculous and hideous people.

'Oh christian, why are you judging these people?' well they are on my telly every effing day so I have the rights to judge them. How can you leave a 3 yr old alone? that's all I want to ask her.

  24. The difference with the Shannon disapperance and the McCann case, and even the Holy and Jessica case is the time of year that they went missing.

Summer is termed "the silly season" by the newspapers and media at large. That means that parilimant is not sitting and that nothing newsworthy is ever going to happen unless there is a suicide bombing or... a missing child. So, if a child goes missing during the summer then the papers and media have a field day, because they have nothing else to put on the front cover.

Shannon has gone missing during a particularly busy period for news, so she is relegated to the middle sections of the newspapers, and, with the US primaries, various wars, Prince Harry, blah blah blah, the press are just not interested.

You can give me all the thumbs down you want, I am not saying this is right. I am just saying that this is why she has not had the same amount of coverage as previous cases

  25. you have said what we all have been thinking
