Isnt "the next Michael Jordan" overused?

I mean, so many NBA superstars are being called that. Lebron, Carmelo, Kobe, Vince, Tmac, and Dwayne are all being compared to Jordan. Sure, Jordan influenced them. But lets not forget who influenced Jordan: Dr J. Jordan, along with others like Shaq, have said that as children they were amazed by Julius Erving's dunks. So isnt it fair to say that Michael Jordan in his prime was the "next Dr.J"? Another thing is that i dont like how Dominique Wilkins is being ignored. He was every bit the dunker MJ was, maybe even better just because he won more dunk contests than MJ. If were gonna compare players to MJ just because they can dunk good, then why aren't there any "next Dominique Wilkins? Any one agree with me?

No it isn't and I don't agree you because Jordan was a lot more then just a dunker he had every quality that a basketball player needs to the best ability that a player could have so that's why everyone is compared to MJ

I agree.

There will never be another Michael Jordan. People will argue that it's going to be Kobe, but i think that, if anybody, LeBron James will be the next Michael Jordan. Even so, those chances are slim to none. There may be another great player, but there will most likely never be another Michael Jordan.

David Stern and the league marketing people will ALWAYS promote the NEXT YEARS MODEL...either the next Mike or someday SOON the next Kobe etc. etc. etc... this manic promotion or, elevation to MESSIAH is to dispel leagues DEEPEST fear:

Lebron, Kobe and the others are not being compared to Jordan just because of their dunking abilities, they are being compared to the best because as of now, they are the best.  Jordan dominated the NBA in the 90s, people usually want to see something as good as what they saw before to continue the fascination.

And you're right, Dominique should not be ignored when it comes to dunking.  Probably Vince Carter as 'the next Wilkins'?
