For example, i bought a $300 item, I put it away and never used it, I find it 6 months later and dont need it. So I go to the store to exhange it for store credit, knowing that i cant get a refund because it has been so long, they tell me they can no longer use the receipt, which says I payed $300, so they scan the item and it says $200 and they tell me they can only give me $200, even though I payed $300. They say its their policy, and I say well I payed $300, not $200, what do you guys think.

  1. That's totally legal.  If you bought the item for $300 and now it is on sale for $200 (or they have reduced the price) they have to return it to you for the CURRENT PRICE OF THE ITEM, recipt or not.

Sorry.  Sucks.  I DEFINATELY reccomend thinking harder before making a $300 purchase like that.  If you put it away immediately, you probably also hesitated in the store before you bought it.  Listen to yourself more.  Don't buy just to buy.  If you got home and just put it away, you should have returned it the next day.  Lesson learned?

  2. Okay. If you do have a legit receipt. And its the same product (ie sku numbers, dept numbers and all that are the same) then they are liable to give you that $300. But some retailers do only accept returns for 90 days after purchase. At that point it really doesn't matter if you do have a receipt or not. As you said its been 6 months, so that is way beyond 90 days. As a consumer, I suggest that you go to them again and request to see this policy in writing. Once you see it, then I suggest that you accept that $200. Because at that point even the 'Consumer Protection Act' wont support you.

  3. How is that illegal?  It's THEIR refund policy, not yours.

  4. I have previoulsy worked in retail, and unless it says that on the back of the reciept then they have to give you the full amount of the refund.

If I were you I wouldn't waste my time arguing with them when you can call there main office and threaten to file with the BBB.

  5. You will get the current price.

  6. Its illeagle!
