Twin toddlers dead for a week, court told
A court has been told twin 18-month-old toddlers were dead for a week before authorities found their bodies in a Brisbane house last night.
A 30-year-old woman has appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court charged over the death of her 18-month-old son and daughter.
She has been accused of not providing the necessities of life but police say more charges are pending.
A 28-year-old man was also arrested and will face court later today.
The court heard the mother found the children in the front room of her Sunnybank home on June 8 or 9.
Prosecutors said the bodies were decomposed and appeared malnourished.
One weighed 3.6 kilograms, the other 4 kilograms.
The court heard the mother found the children's bodies in the front room of her Sunnybank home on June 8 or 9.
She also told the court she had been suffering from a cold and rarely fed or changed them.
When asked by police how they died, the mother allegedly said, "I don't think I fed them enough".
The court was told the couple's other four children said they had rarely seen the twins, who had been kept in the front room of the house for most of their lives.
The court was told the bodies were found by an 11-year-old sibling of the twins who smelt something unusual in their house.
The prosecutor says the child said to the mother, "I know why you've been crying now".
The court heard the parents were undergoing "significant relationship problems" and the man failed to support the children.
The Magistrate wants to find out more about the welfare of the woman's four other children.
A bail hearing for the mother has been adjourned until tomorrow and she will undergo psychiatric assessment.
