What is the difference between isolated t-storms and scattered t-storms?

  1. They are largely correlated with Precipitation chances.

    Isolated means just that, it occurs very randomly in the most convenient terms in various areas with no significant band of precipitation affecting a large area. When a meteorologist say there will be a 20-30% chance of precipitation they are referring to isolated activity. There's a smaller chance of it happening.

    "Scattered" ups the odds a bit and meteorologists forecast that when you may have a 40-50% chance of precipitation.


  2. Scattered means that it MIGHT not rain, but it probably will.  There's storms scattered all over the area.  Think of it kind of like a "mostly cloudy" forecast.

    Isolated means that it MIGHT rain, but it probably won't.  There are a few storms in a few areas.  Think of it kind of like a "partly cloudy" forecast.

  3. Isolated means only in one area.

    Scattered means all over.
