Israel Under-19s v Norway Under-19s - European Under-19 Championship Division Two - Group B - Match Recap
In the European Under-19 Championship Division Two, Israel U19 convincingly beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Norway-c2974 U19 by six wickets, in a match played at the Vagabounds Cricket Club Ground, Braddan, July 29, 2011.
Batting first, Norway were lackluster in their approach, scoring a sluggish 120 in just 33 overs. The only player to reach the 30-run mark, was opener Jamal Rana.
In reply, the Israeli youth were in full control from the word go, reaching the target in just 26.3 overs with the highlight being Josh Evans, who made an unbeaten 56 to guide his side to an easy victory.
It was a good toss to win where Norwegian skipper had hoped to register their first points of the tournament. After a good start between openers, Rana and Ajaib, the batsmen failed to capitalize as all surrendered to some good bowling by Israeli bowlers.
After sharing 30 for the first wicket, Ajaib was unfortunately run-out by some excellent fielding from Itamar Kehimkar. The player made a quick-fire 21 off 22 deliveries, which included 4 confident boundaries.
Another 30-run partnership followed between Rana and Pratik Agnihotri. That too, came to an abrupt end as this time, Evans was in the thick of the action, removing Agnihotri with a direct hit.
After that it was the bowlers who ruled the proceedings as wickets fell like ninepins.
Junaid Mehmood went without troubling the scorer and was followed shortly by innings’ top scorer Rana, who made 30. It was Shalom Kristi that came to the demise of the player after a good catch taken by Dokarker.
As wickets continue to tumble, it was left to skipper, Danish Ashfaq, and Ali Nasir to help the team cross the hundred run mark.
On the score of 116, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashfaq-c46260 was adjudged LBW by the standing umpire. He made 21 with the help of 3 boundaries.
The no 10 and 11 players failed to contribute any, leaving http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasir-c78728 on 16 not out.
The Israeli bowlers were top notch, with the pick being skipper, Raphael Schachat, claiming 3 scalps.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Israel-c2925’s start to the innings was a little patchy, losing opener, Michael Cohen for 3. The skipper, Schacha too failed to impress making just 14 as he was cleaned up by Haq, who had two wickets to his name.
However, all hopes of an unlikely comeback were shattered by Evans as he creamed the bowlers for a 6-boundary, brisk 56. He was ably supported by Itamar Kehmikar as both shared a third wicket partnership of 53.
In the end, Israel made 124 for 4, chasing the target with a staggering 141 balls remaining.
The win puts them 3rd in Group B, while their opponents are still waiting for their first points of the tournament.
