Issac Luke says he tried breaking Rangi Chase's leg - Rugby news
During an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday, November 20, New Zealand hooker, Issac Luke, confessed that he deliberately tried to break England’s half back Rangi Chase’s leg during the Gillette Four Nations Series.
This confession was made by the player when he returned to Sydney after finishing his Four Nations 2011’s journey on a low note.
Luke explained and said that he was angered by his cousin’s decision to play for England instead of his country of origin, New Zealand. This forced him to carry out the dangerous tackle on Chase just before the half-time, during their sudden death 28-6 defeat
in Hull, at last weekend game.
South Sydney player was cautioned for his extreme measures against Chase, and will have to serve a two-match ban. He is already gaining a bad name for himself in the world of rugby for his highly unacceptable on-field behavior. Previously, the player was
also heavily criticised for his dangerous cannon ball tackling style.
It has been noticed that the player is not very keen on keeping his anger aside while playing. His on-field aggression has now reached dangerous heights. His reputation has been tainted already by the very recent string of unacceptable on field code of conduct
violations.
However, the player had also realised that his behavior will lead to serious consequences, if he continues to do the same. The realisation did not wait too long, after he had attempted aggression on his own cousin, Chase, to whom he apologised in person
after the wrap-up of the match.
Embarrassed by his own behavior, Luke explained the sequence of events that led to the leg breaking wrench and said, "I just saw red. A lot of the legends that played in the black and white jersey, they wanted blood. I know Rubes (assistant coach Ruben Wiki)
wanted blood. I guess that's the mentality us young ones have taken on board. We had a talk the night before about what the jersey meant and that must have come out. When you come up against your family you want to outplay them. I didn't outplay him. I tried
to break his leg. It was the wrong thing to do.”
He added further that he has realised that he chose the wrong way to vent out his aggression. However, when he apologised Chase after the game, the latter simply brushed it aside by saying that whatever happens on field stays there.
The 24-year-old Kiwi has learnt his lesson the hard way. After several objectionable instances on field, the player has finally vowed to amend his game. This is great that he has realised on his own otherwise if the similar kind of behavior would have continued,
he could very easily passed for the life time ban in near future.
