I worked for someone only for a few days. But inorder for me to get my owed wages for thoses days, the guy said that he needs my tax reference number and NI number along with my address so that a cheque can be posted to me.

1) If hes sending a cheque why does he need my tax reference number and NI number?

2) I don't feel comfortable giving my address - is there any other means I can get the payment i.e paypal, post office, building society?

  1. just because he is paying you a cheque, doesnt mean he is not going to pay tax for you, so he would need your NI number, unfortunately when you are the employee you dont have a choice how people are paid, you can request that its paid into your building society though. It sounds a bit strange to me why you should have a problem supplying the information

  2. He doesn't need your NI number or tax reference in order to pay you.

    Have you issued an invoice?

He is entitled to know your address in case there is anything wrong with the work you did and he needs to come back to you.
