Issue of television rights between MASN and Washington Nationals remains unresolved - MLB Update
Washington Nationals and Mid-Atlantic Sports Network have yet to come to terms with regard to a revenue sharing agreement for television rights.
The Nationals are asking for more money because the markets similar to them have fetched higher sums from their broadcasters. The disagreement is prevailing since last winter when the Nationals first raised their demands and heaped pressure on MASN for earning
the desire amount of revenue from the television rights.
The fact the Nationals performed extremely well in the recently concluded season will substantiate their claims that they deserve a bigger chunk of the money from their broadcaster. It can further prolong the resolution of the issue which has already taken
an extended period of time for reaching a logical conclusion.
The height of the problem can be gauged from the fact that the Major League Baseball has also stepped in. Yet, both sides appear to be unwilling to clinch an agreement.
An MLB panel has been established, which is reviewing the case of both the parties and listening to arguments.
In light of the fact that the markets equal to the size of the Nationals have actually claimed better deals, MASN may be finding it difficult to get their contention accepted and given importance.
Nationals are planning to construct a strong team for the upcoming seasons. They are seriously considering plans to become one of the most successful clubs in the Major League.
They have already proven the seriousness of their intent by making it into the playoffs in 2012 season. If it was not for the last inning meltdown of their reliever Drew Storen, they would now be fighting in the National League Championship Series.
The bottom line is that the Nationals have begun their journey toward becoming a World Series Champion within a few years. They have established their clubhouse to such an extent that it can be expected that they perform well in almost every season from
now onward.
Keeping their progress in view, demands of the Nationals for more money in television rights may appear legitimate. It will be hoped that an agreement is reached between the Nationals and MASN at the earliest.
