  1. Who cares? How about the 1 billion people who see the Live logo on TV thinking they are actually seeing something that took place?

China once again redefines the m,eaning of the word "truth".

Then again what's to be expected from a totalitarian state?

  2. According to Sky, viewers of the opening ceremony were 'watching a 3D graphics sequence that took almost a year to produce' which even 'included a 'camera shake' to mimic the effect of filming from a helicopter."

but the fireworks were still very good.

  3. i think the fireworks were forgettable, come on, such fireworks exists in most concerts or big events in china, nothing great.

but seriously, with all eyes on beijing, i dont buy the fake fireworks effects. they shouldnt have done it

  4. I seriously doubt they were fake, I mean...you can buy all types of fireworks for next to nothing there and they really go all out on them (check out any videos you see from Chinese new years...it's amazing). I have a hard time believing that with all the money they spent on the production and the arena that they'd go cheap on the cheapest thing for it.

For the record though, I don't care if they were fake but am surprised that this is a rumor at all. I suppose people just really don't get how much work and importance China put into this opening. I mean...even two years before the opening ceremony it was a HUGE deal everywhere there. You couldn't go anywhere without seeing the olympic mascots or the rings. You can even watch the mascots on their own tv show!

  5. Only the footprint fireworks shown on TV was digitally "recreated" due to the safety concern of filming fireworks from a helicoptor.  All the other fireworks shown on TV were real.

  6. It's extremely hard to fake fireworks in front of several thousand people. Who would be stupid enough to make this claim?

Chinese have a long history and tradition of making fireworks and make them by the tonne, so they would have no reason to fake them.

  7. I think it's only fake on TV coz its dangerous for helicopters to take video of the real thing....doesnt mean there is no actual fireworks in the scene. China is the inventor and major producer of fireworks so no need to fake it.

  8. The fireworks were NOT fake.  They were real.  It's the Giant Footstep fireworks shown looking like it was from a helicopter were faked.  I was actually in awe when I saw that footage and could not believe my eyes.  I said "This is incredible"  but yes it was incredible because it was faked.  All other fireworks around the stadium were REAL...

  9. " The Chinese  can fake any God d**n thing in this world " hahahaha..

  10. The fireworks at the Olympics were real, but home viewers were not shown all of the actual fireworks that were set off.  They presented computer-generated shots to television audiences, notably for the "footstep" effect.

They absolutely should NOT have done this.  It discards the line between fiction and reality.  When we are watching a fictional program, we expect to see such trickery, but when we are watching a program presented as "reality," it is only "real" if everything we see is real.  If there were too much risk involved and they still wanted to show the effects, those effects should have been CLEARLY LABELED as "pre-recorded, computer-generated shots."  Failure to do so shows blatant intent of deception.

It disgusts and frightens me that people accept such chicanery as "no big deal."  Falsifying news is how the USA got involved in the Vietnam War, so it IS a serious issue.  When the public begins accepting what they are told over what the truth is, it creates a very dangerous mindset.  Propaganda and fake news is the mainstay of totalitarian governments, and that is why people should make a HUGE issue upon seeing even the slightest infraction, even if it is done "for entertainment purposes."

I would MUCH rather watch REAL footage of lower quality than FAKE footage that "looks good."

Edit:  They also used a lip-synching girl in the opening ceremony:

They're really becoming the Ashlee Simpson of Asia.  They care more about style than substance, just like all those recalled toys that looked great but used lead-based paint.

  11. You know I was thinking of that, when I was watching it on TV.

The part that stuck out as fake to me was not the ones around the stadium but the serious of the line of fireworks that went off south of Tainenman square heading northwards though the forbidden city and up to the stadium. It just did not have the feel of being real..

But your right who cares, but it gives the impression that cheating is ok.

    Edit:

All the people who have me thumbs down I was right about it...

    Edit: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/2008081...

It was the giant footsteps that were faked for TV but they were set off in real life.

  12. Jeez, why does it even matter? The whole point was to put on a good show... and they succeeded, in my opinion. It seems like so many people are trying to make China look bad right now. It's the Olympics. Aren't we supposed to be trying to get along during the games? Thought so.

  13. Why can't anybody read? "The faked fireworks were actually set-off at the stadium, but because of potential dangers in filming the display live from a helicopter, viewers at home were shown a pre-recorded, computer-generated shot." The faked shots were by the television broadcaster, not China. Again, the fireworks were ACTUALLY SET OFF.
