Issues between Washington Nationals and DC metro system remain unresolved as October nears-MLB News
With the post-season around the corner, the Washington Nationals will be looking to come to terms with the DC metro system over matters related to payment of the transport. The disagreement is over the money which D.C. officials say must be made by the organisation.
Actually the time when the matches start the city's trains stop running as per their schedule.
In order to make sure fans keep coming to the stadium smoothly, the transportation system must function for as long as the games do not end. For this, the metro system will run trains even after their scheduled timing has been completed.
Such a service by the metro system comes with a price which has been stated to be beyond $25,000 per hour. However the Nationals are reluctant to pay this.
The issue is more complicated than it apparently looks. The stance that the Nationals have maintained so far has a lot to do with Major League Baseball’s ruling on this.
The Nationals cannot afford to see their fans troubled during the matches ahead. In order to facilitate them, the possible points of contention must be identified and resolved in advance so that fans enjoy watching the games in the post-season.
DC Council member Jack Evans has expressed his worry over the possible example that can be set if the current situation persists and how the other cities can exploit it in future.
“Is quite concerned about a precedent being set in this city that will carry out [to other cities]. … Major League Baseball plays a bigger role in the background than people understand, and I think that’s something we have to work on,” Jack Evans said.
Evans has elaborated the reasons about the current stalemate that prevails between the Nationals and the city metro system.
“From the Nationals’s point of view, it’s more Major League Baseball,” Evans said. “Major League Baseball has made it clear that in no city in the country does the team have to pick up the tab for games that go beyond.”
Sooner the issue is solved the better it will be for the fans.
It will be hoped that the Nationals’ fans do not face embarrassment as they come to watch games.
