I'm well aware that in order to charge an ipod off a computer, you have to have usb 2.0 and my computer has that (for additional info to help resolve this, I have XP SP2, Intel Pentium 4 3.06Ghz processor). But, for some reason my ipod (5th generation 30GB video) just refuses to charge when connected to my computer. And for some reason, when I connect my ipod to my system to update/add more music to it, it'll start loading songs..but the problem is, after about 150 songs have loaded, my ipod starts to load them slower as if the battery on the ipod was going down quick. By about 250 I have to disconnect my ipod from the computer to save the current songs I have loaded, otherwise, if I just let them keep loading, the songs will start transfering at such a slower rate that itunes then says it can't write to the directory where it's been writing the songs ...or it says it can't find the directory...even though it's been writing the songs to the directory and at that point, all the songs that have been written to that point just turn into non readable data that the ipod stores as extra data making the transfer an overall waste of time. However, even though it says it can't write data to the directory, if I recharge my ipod for a bit and reconnect it, it'll start transfering the songs again just fine, but as I said above, the longer I load the songs, the slower the transfer gets and the process repeats. Does anyone know what may be causing this problem or why my ipod is doing this? Is there a way to get my system to charge my ipod or a reason my ipod slows during song transfers? Now, I do know my system can charge ipods cause when I first got this ipod, I use to connect it and transfer songs just fine while it charged my ipod..but for some reason it just stopped working correctly. And, I'm not sure if this is the cause, but this ipod has been dropped many times, but still plays music just fine..that's never been effected..just the song transfers, but I'm not sure if that would cause this or not. Thanks to all who answer.
