Question:

Issues connecting to wireless at work?

I have a unsecured wireless connection here at my house. But at work, we have a secured wireless connection. (I'm running Vista).

Everytime I go to work, I have to restart my computer a few times just to connect to the internet. Now, my computer knows the password for the secured network, so it's not like I can't connect becuase of that.

Also, I have a Netgear, and work has a different one (it's not Linkys, but I can't remember what the name is). Do you think my issue is because I don't have a secured connection at home, and when I get to work, it's flipping out (lack of a better term)?

  1. No, I don't believe that is the problem. The brand of the routers do not matter and switching between unsecured and secured should not render the wireless card useless.

During the short period of time that I had Vista, I found the wireless utility problematic. It might be a bug in the program that is preventing you from connecting. Sometimes it's just a matter of being patient and letting the computer find the network and connect to it.

  2. try resetting the wireless device in your laptop rather than restarting the computer everytime
