Are there any serious implications (i.e. injuring the feet) in the long (or even short) term associated with jogging, say 1 - 2km per day a few times a week (up to 7, no less than 3) in skateboarding shoes - these -

I'm not against buying a pair of running trainers, but would prefer to use the skate shoes I already own if I can.

  1. if you don't feel any pain or discomfort when running with them, then it is okay. most people's feet have normal arches, and your standard tennis shoes accommodates for their feet shape. if you can run in them and your feet feels comfortable during and after your run, then it is good.

  2. When i tried to run in skate shoes my ankles started hurting. I only got a half mile and then i quit.

  3. Yeah, if they feel comfortable, then they are probably alright, but one thing to watch for is straining your hips, and legs. I find running with flat footed shoes is much more awkward than running with proper training shoes. These are designed so that as you run, the shoes propel you along smoothly rather than with the more jerky action that the flat-footed skate shoes create.

You could could compare it to a round wheel, and polygon such as a dodecagon moving at slow speeds, although i suppose this is a poor analogy. I used to run in walking boots occasionaly along my road, because i prefered this to the terrible other shoes i had at the time, the walking boots have a certain curvature that almost encourages you go forward easily. Which more than compensated for the weight. I shall say no more, before i bore you. But i will say if i were you i would get running shoes, you don't even need expensive ones, just plain old ones would do, but it is certainly worth it in my opinion for the comfort. =]
