I inherited a team and have to keep P.Manning. Hes the only one I have. I have first pick and then 24th. Should I pick Gore, Portis, Mcgahee, L Johnson or go with R. Moss or R. Wayne. We do get points for receptionsas well as the standard rules. I am unsure what to do. All other RB's are being kept.

  1. in a points per reception league with the top RBs off the board, you have to go with a WR. if you were to go with a second-tier RB, and have to wait another 23 picks, your #1 WR will be around the 15h-best. you have to figure your 2 possible scenarios would be something like:

    Scenario #1:

    Keeper- P. Manning

    1st- Moss or Wayne

    2nd- RB Thomas Jones

    3rd- RB Johnathan Stewart

    Scenario #2:

    Keeper- P. Manning

    1st- Gore

    2nd- Roy Williams

3rd- most teams already have 2 RBs, might as well get next WR on list, S. Holmes? Jennings?

Scenario #1 gives you a top-3 WR, you can better afford the dip in production from your #2 WR (in the 4th round... or the 3rd if you want to get dicey). you end up with serviceable RBs. they're a bit of a gamble, but since your keeper is a step above most other QBs, you can and must take a few risks.

Scenario #2 gives you the best RB available, who's not a top-of-the-line back (in my opinion). so you're still a step behind the Tomlinson/Peterson/Addai/Wbrook/S. Jackson teams, AND you're going to have weaker WRs on top of it- THEY have a chance (2 chances, actually) to add top-flight WRs to their top-flight backs. you end up mediocre across the board as opposed to being solid in one WR spot. if it were me, i think it would be a pretty clear-cut call.

as far as which WR- Moss or Wayne- you can't go wrong. i wouldn't blame you if you wanted to put a couple Colts together, but it's hard to pass on Moss. i do think your QB-WR production can keep up with the other tandems. even if they are more formidable on paper and traditional (building around a stud RB).

the guy who inherited a team and the #1 pick in my keeper league has to keep Ronnie Brown, with even more of the top players picked over. it could be a lot worse. good luck.

  2. Portis.

  3. I think you have to go with Moss or Wayne. I would take Moss, but I would not be disappointed with Wayne. Even when he has an off game he can usually net around 5-7 catches and with reception points that is huge. Moss could have another great year, but can he repeat last year's numbers?

    I would take Moss though.
