Istanbul Park Circuit getting closer to a deal for the 2012 Turkish Grand Prix – Formula 1 updates
According to recent reports, it has been revealed that the Istanbul Park Circuit is closing in on a deal for the 2012 Turkish Grand Prix, after the organizers of the venue held a meeting with the CEO of Formula 1 Management, Bernie Ecclestone.
There were numerous rumours earlier that the organizers are not willing to hold a Turkish Grand Prix in the future since the expenses required to host the event were increasing and getting higher than the earnings from the event.
Due to this, the organizer’s money was getting wasted since they were not earning considerable profit.
However, since the organizers of Formula 1 are willing to keep the Istanbul Park as a part of the Formula 1 calendar for the future, it seems that the two parties are coming up with a possible solution to this problem.
“Both sides are trying to solve this issue. Comparing before the race and the current situation, there is a 50% difference”, Turkey's automobile federation chairman, Mumtaz Tahincioglu, told the local media after the meeting.
Ecclestone recently stated in Turkey, “We don’t want to leave this place”.
The first deadline for this decision is the 3rd of June. It is expected that the World Motor Sport Council will discuss this matter for the year 2012 by then.
“Even if the issue is not resolved by that date, we must get into the draft. We will be happy to race here for exactly the same fees that we get from other European races, like Hungary does”, said youth and sports general director, Yunus Akgul.
Bernie stated that this deal will only take place if the organizers in Turkey agree to a pay the representative annual fee.
“Other countries seem to believe that Formula One is good for their country. If Turkey believes it doesn't need any good public relations, that's fine. It's up to them to make up their mind. I cannot do it for them”, said Yunus.
The Turkish Grand Prix was quite entertaining this year and since it is considered as one of the most exciting races of the year, Formula 1 would not want to lose this race anytime soon.
