Istanbul all set to host third act of 2012 Extreme Sailing Series – Sailing News
After a successful completion of first two acts of 2012 Extreme Sailing Series, the event managers are heading to Istanbul for the commencement of the third act. On the other hand, the preparations at the city of Istanbul are also done for the launch of
ESS Act 3.
The third act is being organised in Istanbul for the second consecutive year. Last year the act was successful and the Extreme 40 fleet enjoyed their voyage on the Turkish waters.
This year, the participating teams from around the world are once again quite excited and determined to sail on the Istanbul racing area as they make the most out of the regatta’s third leg.
The 2012 Extreme Sailing Series Act 3 will commence from June 7 and will conclude on June 10. The weather conditions on the Istanbul waters will be very supportive. However, last year the participants did experience some heavy winds but they were not destructive.
Speaking to the local media, Alinghi skipper Alain Gautier expressed his feelings and said, “I feel very happy to have the chance to discover the Extreme Sailing Series as this is very new to me, especially since my first event with the whole fleet is at
Istanbul, which is a great city and it´s flattering that Alinghi thought of me to take the helm for this Act.”
He further added, “We know we will face crews which have raced several seasons in the Series so racing will be tough, but we will be in Istanbul with no pressure. I will race with a great team who are determined to get the best possible result.”
