  1. I didn't know Chinese were that racist against Filipinos. But then again, coming from a culture that tortures peace loving people (Tibetans), I'm not surprised.

  2. definitely it is!  but maybe he has his reason for saying it. nevertheless, still its a racist remark.

  3. In my humble opinion,

I try to look at the bigger picture. He did make a sweeping generalization comment about the entire filipino race.

His comment is very ignorant because if filipino's are givin a chance to train and develop their skills and talents just like the americans and chinese, then they can compete and possibly win numerous Gold medals.

Filipino's don't have the strong support and resources to train like the americans and chinese.

YOU HAVE TO TRAIN HARD TO BE THE BEST OF THE BEST.

There is much talent in this world that go unnoticed because they have no support and guidance.

  4. yes it is.

it is stereotyping as well which does not hold true for all Filipinos.

  5. he's pretty judgmental. No one is better than the other.

  6. Yak Rider has a point technically it might not be a racist remark.

But for the most part it is a racist remark.

Although others might term it as an ethnic slur or a bigoted remark.

Any which way you may want to call it, it is one thing--it is unwise, an ignorant & a sweeping generalization. Especially if you want to be really technical with over a billion people or a fifth of the world's population it is just understandable that some of the best athletes of the world are chinese--its just statistics & probabilities. Look at the Asian Indians also over a billion people but they only got their very first gold olympic medal ever only in the 2008 olympics. What will he then call them?

  7. Call the Immigration office and tell them to deport your father to Tibet, quick!

  8. Yes, it is. It's also stereotype, which means that you're basically creating a label for all people of one kind.

I feel the same way. Part of my family is Greek, English and Dutch, and the other part is just Greek. It's just something you'll have to live with, I suppose...

  9. Olympic athletes represent their countries, not the people in their countries. It takes a lot just to qualify for the Olympics. Unless he's met every single Filipino and every single Chinese to be able to prove that his statement is correct, then maybe he can just take a look at himself in the mirror or better yet, move back to China.

  10. Racism is only racism when it is spoken or said by one in majority power.  So in America, a white person can be racist but  a african american is only discrminatory, never a racist.  In the Philippines the Chinese are not in power, and are a minority group widely supressed by the govt of the Philippines.  your father may discriminate but he is not a racist because he is the one being treated badly.

Prove me wrong--go find out if you are a Philippine citizen...that's right go and see if you are a citizen, if you can get a PRC (Professional Regualation Commission) license if you go to college.  GO get a passport and see what happens, and go apply for a job in a regular blue collar field.  If you want to see through your father's eyes see what the Chinese are treated like as adults.  As a child you don't know yet, but one day you will watch your college classmates get jobs and you will be denied legally, and you will be laughed at as you are forced to work in Chinese businesses.  200 years ago the chinese were butchered every year in a culling (look up the word) to minimize the population.

  11. But are you guys even Filipino or are you guys Chinese. For all we know your father might just be backing up his fellow Chinese. He might just be a competative person. Like in the US, someone might call your favorite team stupid. It doesn't mean it's a racist remark.

  12. The old generation of Chinese have this contempt for everything pinoy though it is indeed ironic that their lifeblood and their millions come from pretty much the Chinese monopoly of the pinoy market.

Learn from your dad's mistakes. You recognize this kind of contempt will only divide us further and lead to a backlash on the elitle minority (the chinese) by the ruling but poor masses (pinoys). We are on the same boat, same country. We can only hope that this kind of attitude is left with the old farts and not pass on to their kids.

  13. The statement is bigoted.  It is not racist.  "Chinese" and "Filipino" are not races of people.

  14. National or ethnic pride is fine.....but to denigrate another ethnic group is not only racist.....but ignorant

There are stupid people in every nation or ethnic group......I come from  America.... we have Jessica Simpson who is confused by the label "Chicken Of The Sea"..... is it chicken or is it tuna ????? I have friends back home that believe 911 was a government plot.....Does this mean "all" Americans are stupid......NO !!..... but we do have some wandering around

The Philippines has a long list of brilliant accomplishments..... the fact that your computer is in vivid color is due to a Filipino that invented a color module..... Aureomycin was discovered by a Filipino..... made out of dirt from Iloilo.....millions of lives have been saved with this antibiotic.....the concept of Passive Resistance which freed India and won civil rights in America was created by a Filipino......

The history of the Chinese people is undeniably great..... they are  often brilliant and have contributed significantly to the world..... but so are the Filipino people..... you just have not read the right books

    Do the research......

Finally..... a little something I have discovered

"Everyone is an idiot and a genius.....just depends on the subject"

EDIT.... Gold medals...... Your father is using flawed logic...... there are several reasons Filipinos have not won as many Olympic medals.....NONE of those reasons have to do with ethnic or genetic inferiority......FOR EXAMPLE....The Philippines has approximately 90.5 million people......while China has 1.4 BILLION people....is it not logical the more people you have the better your chances to find athletes???  The Chinese people have an average GDP of $2,000 per capita .....while the Philippines has roughly half that....more money per capita.....means China can devote more money to creating athletes..... the Philippines is a democratic country.....it can not conscript.... force people to be athletes....China on the otherhand takes children away from their falimies and trains them from age two.....allows the family two visits per month.....forces these children to endure painful exercises..... their sole purpose to win gold for China..... this kind of conscription and slavery is not possible in a free nation like the Philippines..... My father was a brilliant and compassionate man......but sometimes he was wrong too

  15. Was it really your father who made that statement?

Anyhow, it is indeed insulting. Not only is it racist, but the person who said this is uneducated, has low value for life, no morales, and think of himself only as the superior kind.

Filipinos are not lame nor stupid, they are usually put in the brink thats why they feel lame and stupid. The people who thought that they are more superior than other race are the ones that are feeble and dullard. They would greatly depend on what others can do and credit it on their behalf.

The Olympics is not the only ground to label people. It is one of the most celebrated event but a person's strength dont just rely on what they can do in sports alone. Not just because the Philippines hasn't gotten any gold in the Olympics, we will be minuscule forever. We are David in our own rights and on many occassion, we have beaten Goliath.

  16. your father had displayed arrogance and was completely intolerable of his opinion that differed from your own or anybody else.   can't blame him for some of his statements were true.

let me cite an example that may lead us to believe that filipinos are good competitors if set to the right parameters.

if manny paquiao will participate in olympic 2008, i don't think no one will contest the presumption of him knocking his opponents and bagging the gold medal.  why is this so?  it's because manny has the right trainings and exposures to this field.  he has the physical and mind ability coupled with financial stability to have the best program for his fitness.   if all our athletes had these factors, would you think they could bag golds as same way as manny had achieved?  well, i guess we are now on the same page.

  17. That IS racism. :(
