Ok I told my landlord I needed new insulation as I once had a leak in the roof and over time made the bats mouldy, they replaced the tin roof but left the crappy bats still there. Anyhoo, a year on the house is increasingly cold and I figure it has something to do with the bats. He came over yesterday with 1 packet of insulation and proceeded to go under the house with a hammer, the insulation and some nails..Im a bit confused by this time. I heard him bang in a few nails and the job was done, mind u the rotting bats in the roof still live there. I dont believe there was anything special about this bat either it was brought from bunnings. Could someone please tell me if this is normal and will it hav any affect on helping keep my place warm? Response will very highly appreciated. Thankyou.

  1. Insulation bats are made from fibreglass fibres, they can not rot. They can get dirty and mouldy if left wet and unventilated for long periods of time. This will not effect how well they keep the heat in.

The owner of the house is under no obligation to further insulate the house, many houses have no insulation at all. You should feel lucky that he has gone to the trouble of adding extra under the floor.
