  1. I have a friend who lives in Hastings and travels to london everyday . its not a bad trip about 1hr 20 mins each way by train.

as for jobs in Hastings i dont think there would be many except maybe in local shops or pubs . not sure about industry or office jobs though maybe small local bussiness only.

It is a particularly nice town right on the sea . i myself would love to live there

  2. Well, until recently it has been very much of a retirement area, commercial sea fishing town and holiday resort.  House prices were less than other towns in the area (Eastbourne and Brighton, for example).  I read recently in the paper that they have a bit of an upsurge in youth problems and the like (but where has this not been the case).

I guess that my advice would be to go there and talk to a few of the residents.  A lot of the "oldies" (like me) seek out the lunchtime "special meal offers" - go and join them and ask them the question.  You will find them friendly, and more than willing to put you along the right lines.  They will know what areas of the town are "good" and what are not - this, of course, applies to just about any town in the UK these days.

I can't tell you about working there - I suspect that much of it would be related to tourism, and would be seasonal.  I think that people living there often travel to other towns or areas, such as Tunbridge Wells or even London.
