  1. Hi

There is a way in photoshop to do just that. As long as you have a good resolution of 300 dpi. You can enlarge to a wallsize poster. Don';t forget that any enlarged pics have to be viewed from a distance. If you stand one foot away, it will not be clear. Kep that inmind.

First, open in p-shop. Resample the pic at 600 dpi and atdouble the size of your finish product. Now, open a new page with the mesaurements you want and copy / paste the pic on this new page layout.

Now resize, (no down - sampling) using the corner handles and fit it to the proper size....NO CROPPING. Sometinmes, your resize won't fit without distoring a bit. Forget it. Don;t stretch it.

Select all and see what the size is of the product the way it should like

and open aother page with THAT measurement. Now, copy / paste.

Add a little blurr, only slightly, then resharpen  vertically and again, very lightly. Save and print.

By down sizing it this way, the pixels get closer. The secret to getting a good print lies in the printer itself. Tell the person to output at 600 or 1200 dpi. The product will come out good.

  2. Check with your lab ... they can give you some pointers on what resolution to shoot your images if you want to make poster size images from them.

The rule of thumb is you should ALWAYS shoot at your cameras highest resolution ... whether your camera is capable of producing poster size images is most likely a physical limitation of camera.

I am sure that the $5,000 Nikon D3 and $8,000 Canon 1Ds Mark III can produce files capable of producing posters, but the lab will be able to better advise you.

Your responsibility is to make sure your images are in perfect focus and there is NO camera movement evident in the image.

  3. The only way to do this is if the image is already in a high resolution.  As mentioned above, if you have not taken the photo yet, then take it with the highest resolution possible in the camera.

If you are asking about how to enlarge an existing image so that it prints clear at poster size, then you are out of luck.  There is no way to increase a low resolution image into a higher one.  There are a few ways, in applications like Photoshop to "fake" a higher resolution, but, the processing of enlarging the image will make it easier to show the photo's faults.  The results are almost always disappointing.
