The gangling Indian pacer, Ishant Sharma, has said that it is always an honour for him to lead the pace attack of India in the absence of spearhead pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379.
"Obviously it's a great feeling... It's an honour to lead the Indian attack (in absence of Zaheer Khan),” said Sharma while talking to the media reporters after a practice session on the eve of India’s second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
“Being a seniormost bowler in the team, it's really great. It's difficult to express this kind of feeling actually," he added further.
Zaheer Khan has not made an Indian squad since suffering a hamstring injury during the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 at Lord’s this summer. He underwent an ankle surgery in August this year, and is on course for recovery. Sharma had also sustained a ligament
injury during the third Test of the same series; however, after missing two One-Day series against England – home and away – he is back in India’s squad for the West Indies series.
Sharma said that they would miss the likes of Zak during the home series against Windies. However, he said they would go out and prove a point with the available strength.
"You are obviously going to miss a bowler like Zak,” said Sharma. “But injuries are a part and parcel of the game. You have to play the role of the senior when someone is injured. Whatever you have in the team, you need to go ahead and give your best shot,"
he further added.
The second Test between India and West Indies will commence on Monday at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Replying to a query regarding the nature of the Kolkata pitch, Sharma said that he does not look at the pitch before the game so he has no idea
how it would behave tomorrow. Sharma also renounced from predicting a team combination for the second Test.
Having won the series opener at Feroz Shah Kotla by five-wickets, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 currently lead the three-match Test series 1-0 and must be eager to clinch an unassailable lead in the series by winning the Kolkata Test as well.
