Question:

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!?

Okay, so I'm crazy. But I LOVE Christmas. I started doing my shopping a couple of months ago and I have a few blank spots on my list that I need some help with!

My daughter goes to her Grandma's 2 days a week (she won't let us pay) and to home daycare 3 days a week (we pay). What do you suggest getting these very important people for Christmas?

I was thinking of doing $100 cash each or $50 cash and a small gift. Many people have told me to avoid knick-knacks, but what do you get instead of knick-knacks? Do you bake cookies or other Christmas goodies?

Also, do I give them each the same thing or something different? Do I give my mother-in-law something a little more special since we don't pay her?

I want to give them something special. They both take SUCH great care of my daughter and I want them to know how much I appreciate it! Thanks for all your answers!

  1. I always like getting gift cards to my favorite resturant. It is always a treat to go out for a nice dinner with a loved one and neither one of you have to pay!!!

  2. I think cash for grandma is kinda cheesey. Get her a nice picture frame with a picture of the grandkid(s) and perhaps make her a photobook (like snapfish.com or even CVS in store!) of your little one's past year. That is more of a nice personal gift.

The daycare owner I am sure would prefer the cash though. Just add a nice card saying how much you appreciate her. Same for grandma.

  3. I've already started my Christmas shopping too! I would get them a gift card instead of cash, maybe to their favorite restaurant.  I would give Grandma something more special than the daycare worker, just because she is Grandma. I think something with your daughter's picture on it would be nice.

  4. I think the avoidance of knick-knacks depends on whether the people you are getting for LIKE knick-knacks or not. I think cash for grandma may be taken the wrong way, but a giftcard to a favorite store is a different story (my MIL is a big fan of anything to do with plants even in the wintertime, she also likes various religious knick-knacks), also for the grandma, I think you can't go wrong with a personalized photo album, frame, or even calendar. For a daycare provider I'd go with a thoughtful card and either the cash or a giftcard, because face it, even if they don't use it for themselves- around that time of year they probably have their own holiday shopping to do and would appreciate the extra surprise.

Kudos to you for doing it early - frankly I can't even think about Halloween yet! lol

  5. Its not even September yet!!!! stop with the christmas talk!! yuck. ha ha

I think cash is kind of tacky as a gift, I would do say a $50 gift card and a box of homemade cookies!

  6. Give the MIL something special... Willow Tree Angels have an awesome grandmother figurine.

As for the daycare...you could give the teachers gift certificates to bath and body works, or a store of that nature. Anything to pamper them. Don't give anything that they can use in class...it should be something just for them.

Good job starting early...if we had the money right now I would start now as well.

  7. Toys, good quality toys, are presents for _me_ as well as my daughter. I would think about getting something like an indoor slide, especially for the home daycare provider since she'll get mileage out of it with other kids. Get something more personal for your MIL, too, but I assume both those people like your daughter enough that they'd appreciate having something grand to entertain her with.

  8. I love Christmas and I bought some gifts just yesterday! I'd be tempted to spend a little more on Grandma seeing as she does it just to see her granddaughter. Say $100 for Grandma and $50 and a small gift for daycare. Photographs are always a winner for Grandparents and how about $50 and perfume for daycare. Or some bath salts etc.
