Would could we use to replace it in electrical systems?

  1. Aluminum comes to mind.  Aluminum has been used in the past for household wiring.

  2. zinc?

  3. Who estimated that?  I have raw copper here on my property, but won't mine it until the price hits $5 per pound.  The price has recently dropped from ~ $4 to $3,80 per pound.

Let us say we run out of copper, silver or gold is a better conductor than copper. Because the communications industry has switched to fiber optics, the demand for copper is slowing. Still power distribution uses a large amount of copper.  I suspect we will eventually switch to higher frequencies to transfer power & thus take advantage of the "skin effect" (where the current travels on the outside of the conductor) & thus cover some pliable material with a thin coat of copper.
