Benfica coach Jorge Jesus claims that he is quite satisfied with the club’s current standing in the Primeira Liga.
The Reds have been in fine form all season and cemented their place on top of the standings with a 4-0 win over UD Leiria.  Jorge Jesus’ men have been labeled as favourites for the title since August and their current run of victories have proved that point.
Beating away the challenge from FC Porto, the Lisbon giants have assumed control over the top and are likely to end up as champions if they continue playing like this for the next few months.
The Portistas haven’t provided much of a threat, as they have been struggling to replicate their feats of their last campaign. Sporting spent heavily during the course of the summer but are still a team in the making and are no threat to the Estadio da Luz outfit as of yet.
Benfica have exploited their opponents’ slow start and were able to take advantage, when both the teams collided at Estadio Jose Alvalade. A goalless draw was the outcome and the Eagles took full advantage, as they clinched all three points against UD Leiria.
At Municipal da Marinha Grande, the home side provided little resistance and succumbed to a loss at the hands of the Portuguese giants, who scored through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rodrigo-c31437’s well-taken brace.
The result placed the club on 36 points, two ahead of FC Porto and eight ahead of Sporting Lisbon. With only a few months left in the current campaign, Benfica manager Jorge Jesus claims that he is quite happy with his side’s position.
Speaking to reporters, the trainer said that his team should go step-by-step and counter each fixture as they come along just like what they had been doing.
"We have to make things match by match, as we have been doing. We knew the outcome of our rivals [goalless draw between FC Porto and Sporting at Alvalade] and we had to do our duty, which was to win. In addition we not only won but we also had a great game.”
“It is great to be isolated at the top, it is better to be first than second or third.  But we have a long and difficult path ahead of us, in which any team may lose points at anytime. Everything is open. There are three teams, Benfica, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jorge-c19120 Jesus was quoted as saying.
With Benfica looking unbeatable this term and having assembled a decent lead at the top of the summit, it remains highly unlikely that the Primeira Liga trophy will end up anywhere other than the Stadium of Light.
