Benfica forward Rodrigo claims that despite making his debut for the side in the UEFA Champions League match against Otelul Galati, there is too much competition for places and it will be tough to gather game time at Estadio da Luz.
The Reds travelled to the National Arena in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romania-c2990 on September 28, where they took on Otelul Galati for their second UEFA Champions League tie.
Although Benfica were touted as firm favourites, they struggled to impose themselves on the occasion. However, they eventually ran out 1-0 winners but it was a below-par performance from the Portuguese side.
One of the players who played in the away game was attacker Rodrigo, who made his bow for Jorge Jesus’ men in the prestigious European competition.
The 20-year-old was on loan at English Premier League side, Bolton Wanderers, last term and it was much speculated that he would continue plying his trade at Reebok stadium. However, the youngster chose to return to his parent club and help them secure the
Primeira Liga title this summer.
Making his debut in the UEFA Champions League, the former Real Madrid man had a decent game and is now looking to gather even more playing time under his belt.
Speaking to reporters, the front-man said that he has always wanted to play in the UEFA Champions League and was looking forward to the next opportunity.
"I always wanted to play in this competition, which is the best in the world. It's a very nice feeling to hear the anthem of the Champions League and I hope that I hear it more often.” He revealed.
Rodrigo also reiterated that although he had made his debut for the Lisbon outfit, gaining a place in the team was very hard due to the calibre of players at the helm.
"It's hard to get in this team because they're very good and they have many quality players. But I'm still very new, so I will have to do a lot of work to become like these great players,” the Spanish International was quoted as saying.
Rodrigo’s next chance to play in the UEFA Champions League will come when Benfica take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 on the 18th of October.
