  1. I saw The Other Ones (Grateful Dead's surviving members) in 2002 at the Spectrum... and across the street was a Shakira concert on the same day.... and there were all these parents with their kids tellin the lil ones to stay away from the hippies...  it was a truely weird situation  but what isn't when yr around deadheads?

  2. It's been official for a while now. A shame how we don't preserve historic landmarks anymore. Yankee Stadium, Tiger stadium- both would have been great museums- open everything up to the public for once, spend a little bit of money to keep  small bit clean and nice, and close off the bulk...

Now the spectrum. Where will the Phantoms play? That was a very nice tough, even if the arena was below standards for the NHL, use it for the AHL.

  3. My favorite memories were watching the Phantoms win two cups in it  and the many...many Concerts i have seen there

my question still is where are they going to put all the cars that will be clogging up that area....will it be a 4 mile walk to get in the Stadiums and the Wachovia?

P.S another memory was watching Wrestling on Prism back in the day  (i know but i was a kid)...LOL

Joe.. I barley remember watching it it was so long ago. but me and my brothers were talking about Cheif.J.Strongbone and the fact that we watched it on Saturdays just came up!

Jeff the Phantoms will play at the Wachovia center also

  4. I have never been there so not many memories only from games on television.  I remember the games against RED Army and television announcers saying live from the Spectrum.

I kinda miss the era where arena's had real names and not corporate sponsorship... The Spectrum, The Garden, The Forum.  I realize the revenues are needed but the old buildings had character and part of that character was the name.  Now all the arena's seem alike and they are named alike The XYZco Center.

Here in Montreal they kept they building, the Forum, and turned it into a entertainment complex (theater/Restaurants /bars/ shops).  It may have been better to have torn it down, I drive by but it is not the Forum anymore, My memories are better than the abomination the building has become.

  5. Oh man, the memories.....

    Where should I start?

First time there was in 1976 to see the Flyers play the Sabres. Leach scored #61 and Barber #50.

The games I can remember seeing were against the Gretzky led Oilers, NY Islanders, Capitals, Canucks, and the 1984 US Olympic team. I've attended several Phantoms, Wings, Fever, and Sixers games there. I also went to a Flyers Wives Fight For Lives Carnival when Holmgren was the coach.

My first concert was probably in 1977 when Kansas was on their 1st major tour. I've seen Rush three times, AC/DC, Dio, Boston, Billy Idol (hey, I was on drugs), and Van Halen.....well. sort of. I made it inside the Spectrum but I don't remember anything except waking up back home dizzy as h**l and my friend Lonny still doesn't forgive me for leaving him there.

I have seen the tractor pulls and caught Andrew "Dice" Clay. We almost got ourselves kicked out for our less-than-model behavior that night.

I killed many brain cells there so there might be a few more events I attended that I can't remember. One thing I would like to forget is meeting a girlfriend I couldn't dump fast enough at the Rocky statue when it was located in front.

First it was the Vet, and now it will be America's Showplace that will pass from our view. Thanks for the memories.

  6. Always been a great place to watch games. Saw countless Devils games there always had a great time. Kinda sad to see it go but it will be cool to have something worth walking through on the way to the new joint. With all the new and old Stadiums on that corner it's getting kind of crowded so it only makes sence to.

EDIT:When I was a kid, real real young maybe 4 I ran up the steps like Rockey did tripped and scraped my knee.http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=NYhORxH6p6...
