Better ratings then the NBA-Boston/Detroit which is very shocking considering two big market clubs with alot of history.

Is this Series the turnaround the NHL needed since the lockout or a fluke?

  1. It's a good sign. I am not a fan of Crosby, but I do wonder how much of the increase is due to him? Like him or not, the media has played him up a great deal and he does have quite a bit of viewer appeal.

  2. This will hopefully bring about a new age for the NHL, maybe even one where they have a decent tv package to increase viewership even more.

The DET/BOS series has really made me disinterested though.  You never know which team is going to show up for either club.  In fact most of the NBA teams have played wildly inconsistent in the playoffs.

  3. I give a 6 Because the Best Player in Game Played at his Best that would be Sidney Crosby.

  4. They got half decent ratings (4.5 million viewers), which is ok considering it looked like a sweep.  We shall see what happens on sat, for game 4.  I know i'm excited.

Amazing how many vacuous automatons there are in this country boosting ratings of shows like american idol and mindless dancing shows rather than the beautiful and exciting battle of 40 of the most determined, supremely skilled athletes this planet has to offer.

  5. Just imaging if it was on ESPN and there was no NBA competition! It Would be like the superbowl haha

habsfan: Wide Right is not a phrase you want to say in B-lo

  6. oh yes this is an exciting series win lose best series I have seen in a long time

  7. The basketball game still got twice the rating through out the whole nation.  But the hockey rating is still good.

  8. Makes you wonder how it would do in Boston if the Wings were playing the Bruins at the same time as the Pistons and Celtics.

Gotta be great for Detroit anyway. The city needed a lift,

  9. It says more people watched the Wings/Pens instead of the Pistons/Celtics only in the state of Michigan.  But overall the NBA game drew out better ratings.

"The combination of Games 1, 2 and 3 have made this the highest-rated and most-watched opening games of the Stanley Cup finals since Detroit faced Carolina in 2002."  We want Hockey!

Joe- LOL ya I'm also surprised.

  10. While it is nice that the ratings are rising, lets not forget when comparing games that the NHL was on a network you can pick up with any basic cable program and an antenna, while the NBA was on a cable network.

  11. It is a good sign. The Games moving to a major network have had to have helped that number. Better exposure and more viewers than VS. The over hype of the Crosby commercials seems to have added to the numbers as well . Not a bad day for hockey

  12. Bills in the Super Bowl - did you win any?

BuffaloBoys: you said that, not me. I meant that even my friends from upstate NY joke about your lack of success (but then rave about Beebe's hustle in the same sentence)

  13. considering i watched both games (mostly the hockey one... but i was really nervous and didn't want to watch game 3 anyways so channel hopping). that's good news for the nhl i guess considering the whole cbc saturday night game schedule plus having other multiple sports games on the same day same time all vying for tv ratings debacle.

i'm not happy detroit lost last night (the pistons. lol.)

and this isn't a fluke. this series should be important in the PA, and MI<is this the abbreviation for mychicken michigan? areas. i wouldn't be watching the finals if there weren't so many canadians my age, or older who i'ved watched play hockey from a young age, and they're my two favourite american teams...aside from that i wouldn't care either way because they're not the leafs. lol.

"the NHL was on a network you can pick up with any basic cable program and an antenna". hahaa very true. but that's only for canadians and cbc watchers. i was watching the game last night and happened to switch to nbc and my thought was (i have it all the time when this happens), why is hockey on nbc...and why is the same hockey game on two channels on my tv. but it happens too with basketball and most time i don't complain whether i watch it on a canadian/american network...it only bothers me when it's hockey and even then it's not something to go anal over.
