  1. Use dimentional analysis all the time. write down the units and check that they cancel correctly, and give you the units that you want in the answer.

    4 bad / 80 parts = 0.05 bad/part

    243 bad / 0.05 bad/part = 4860 parts

    .

  2. % DEFECTIVE PARTS=4/80 *100=5%

    NOW 5%=243

    SO 100%=243*100/5=4860 ANS

    MATHS NEEDS CONCENTRATION.

  3. We can  just form a ratio like

    80/4 = x/243 --- (Out of 80 parts there were 4 defectives, how many parts are there if the defectives were 243?)

    cross multiply

    4x = 19440

    so

    x = 4860

    The reason all of you have trouble with word problems is because they force you to think. All the previous problem types all you had to do was follow a set of rules and crank out an answer. For word problems, write down in equation form everything you know. Usually, there will be 2 equations and 2 unknowns, You can eliminate one variable using algebra you already know. Go for it.

  4. Find the percentage of bad parts or set up a ratio

    Ratio 4 is to 80 as 243 is to x

    that becomes fractional equation

    4/80=243/x

    Solve by cross multiplying

    4x=80(243)

    4x=19440

    x=19440/4 = 4860
