  1. congratulations on the horse your going to buy!!

just make sure you do everything possible to get the right horse

    1. If any of your friends have horses ask if you can help them look after their horse practice making feeds, rugging the horse and even cleaning oout the stable

    2. get advice for a experiecned horse person ask if they could come along to look at the horse and any thing eles you can think of such as what feed to give and how long to ride you horse

    3. look in differnt places for your horse such as the newspaper and the internet.

    4. when you look athe horse get a vetcheck, make sure you fetch it from the paddock, pickup its feet and tack it up.and dont get the frist horse you look unless in perfect!

    5.  get a trial period on the give it a few days to get used to the new property then take it to places eg. the local ponyclub (if you do this you can see how the horse reacts out of it confrot zone), do arena work with the horse and bushriding., see what the horses ground manners are like such as dose it try and bite you when you do  up the girth or dose it push infront of you when you turn it out.

Remeber a first horse should have a tick in all the boxes you can allways get something more challaging later down the line. Also the most important thing is that you get allong with the horse!!

    good luck

  2. When you find a horse that you're really interested in, ride him or her several times before scheduling a prepurchase vet exam.  I strongly recommend getting that exam, because it will save you money in the long run if there is a problem.  If possible, see if you can try the horse for a week or two before making such a huge financial investment.  I just bought my first horse 3 weeks ago (I've been riding for 7 years and my parents finally said i could get one) and when I first got her I spent tons of time on the ground with her first-taking her for walks, lounging her, etc.  The main thing is to not rush with working her and give her or her time to adjust fully.  Good luck and have fun!!!!

  3. when ever the vet or farrier go out to check on your horse ask them any question you might have.read up on horses and most important have a good time with your new horse good luck

  4. What sort of riding do you want to do? Do you want to compete? Where will you be keeping it? Give some info on what you want to do with your horse. :)

*Get a vet check - There's nothing worse than buying a horse then 3 months later, finding it's permanently lame, can't do what you want or buying a 10 year old then finding out it's 25!! (Very common)

*Get a professional to come with you, preferably your riding instructor who you know well. - You don't want to get stitched up with a money-grabbing horse dealer.

*Don't buy the first horse you see - Get to know the horse market and know what you want and don't want

*The best person you could possibly buy off of is a friend or somebody you know well.

*I strongly recommend taking your horse on a 1 or 2 week trial before purchasing it. - To ride the horse in its familiar environment isn't a good test. It is common for horses to show their true colours with different horses in a different place. Plus, I hate to say it, but it is becoming more common for horses to be drugged up to keep the horse calm and subdued when potential buyers come to look at it.

Good luck! Please let me know if you want anymore info.

  5. im totally on the same boat a u about everything

  6. learn as much as you can ask qustions read alot of books on horses have your horse looked at by a vet before you by him ask them as many qustions as you can ask them to walk trot and canter the horse you plan to ride and ride him look for any problems hang out with the horse before you buy him to see if you get along and dont buy them the first day if they say you have to theres probably something wrong make sure the stall you put him is safe ask your vet what a good diet for your horse would be with the type of riding you plan to do and love them as much as you can good luck
