Question:

It's too much?

I became vegetarian about 5 months ago and ever since then I've been looking at the nutrition facts on everything I eat, have gotten my family to start recycling, and am trying to not use any products that test on animals. But it's too much! I watched this movie called Earthlings, and it had so much cruelty in it, I cried so much. All the human terribleness EVERYWHERE I LOOK is really getting to be too much, and sometimes I think I want to go live in a tribe in a rainforest when I get older because every single thing I research on has come out to be selfish human cruelty!!! AAARRGGGHHHHHH...ahem, sorry. Any advice?

  1. Sitting here fretting about it will do nothing...obviously you feel very passionate about this, so you should use it to your advantage and get active.  Start in your community, maybe at a local animal shelter, and spread the word.  Search online for ways you can help by volunteering and spreading awareness.  "Be the change you want to see," I guess is what I'm getting at.  It takes people like you to make the public understand what's going on.

  2. I'll go live in the rainforrest with you! I feel the same way you do, and recently I even found out of all things even SUGAR! is filterd through bone char! I don't feel safe anywhere anymore, yes I do think darn near every product out there food and all, has had cruelty involved somewhere somehow! I try not to think about it, it's like h**l on earth!

  3. Stop obsessing, you'll only confuse people and think that being veg leads to unhappiness.

If you stop consuming meat, dairy and eggs and live a happy life that doesn't turn people off, you'll do more than you will if you are stressed out and obsessed all of the time.

It's good to have a cause but you have to have things in life that make you happy. If your whole life revolves around saving the world, you may end up with compassion fatigue which is unhealthy mentally and physically.

  4. just do as much as you're comfortable with, and don't stress about anything. I say that you should eat what you want, and do what you want. my suggestion is to STOP WATCHING THOSE DOCUMENTARIES!! I did it too in the beginning, and it was depressing! Then I realized that, I am helping by being Vegetarian, and not using these cruel products, because every little bit counts, and I'm happy with that. :D Just be you, and the world will catch on eventually.

  5. I know how you feel.  Cruelty to animals makes me so sick.  That is why I became a Vegan.  You can't save everyone.  You have made a wise choice though by becoming a vegetarian.  I was a vegetarian until I saw a video on meat.com and then I became a vegan.  Chickens and dairy cows are the worst treated of all the animals.  It is so sad.  Enjoy your life and just know that you are making a difference.  Welcome to the club.

  6. You have arrived at the exact same conclusion that i arrived at about two months ago. I watched earthlings and was so upset by it that my dad made me turn it off...he said i would drive myself insane watching videos like that. Everything boils down to human greed. If it makes somebody money, you can bet that they will continue their practice. It is people like you who actually have the sense to see that what we as a superior race (and i mean that in an intelligence manner, not to say that humans are superior to animals)  allow is not only destroying the world but also greatly damaging the organisms which live in it. As long as there are people like you, I will continue to hope that the world will change for the better. good luck!!!

  7. Did you ever stop to think the pain you are causing the potatoes you kill?

This becomes a philosiphical question because if you connect electrodes to the leaves of plants and pick the fruit or vegetables they wil respond.

The ultimate religeon is Taoism which strictly demands that you never harm any other living (animal or vegetable) being.

This, of course, demands that you starve yourself to death which, I hope, you will reject as have every surviving being on this planet.

With age, hopefully, you will understand that the question is not whether our actions are BLACK or WHITE, but, rather, what shade of grey we are employing.

e.g., Do we harvest and kill randomly without concern for the organism we are preparing to eat? Or, do we kill wantonly without regard for waste or full use of what we are killing?

    Difficult question.

Bless you to come to your own answer.

  8. I understand how you feel. One thing I try to do is focus on the positive things about myself and others. You have recently become a vegetarian which is doing you part to save animals and our planet. You should also pat yourself on the back for the other lifestyle changes you are making to help improve your lifestyle and help others. Give yourself credit for those positive and huge steps!

There are other people in this world who care too! You are not alone.

  9. its hard to be a nice caring person in this world. a person that loves animals and wants to stand up for thier rights is very brave, and i salute you

us vegetarians are helping the world by saving animals. you dont eat meat, the meat companys sell less and dont get as much money. and if you buy vegetarian foods you are supporting them and using your money for that instead for something that is for murder.
